They are Allen screws, I believe they are 3/16". Following is a suggestion:
I have a BK-7, and one of the first things I did was change out the screws to standard flat-blade type headed screws, in stainless steel. That way, I can remove the handles easily, with the SAK that I carry in the sheath pocket. All of the stainless steel screws that are available are shiny; I cured that by putting them on a stove burner set to high, for about three minutes each. They turn a nice purple, then you pick them up with tongs and drop them in cold water. There - you now have dark screws. Same procedure with the nuts.
The reason I did this was because I don't carry around an allen wrench with me, but I do have the SAK everywhere I go. The only thing I store in the handles is wax-covered matches.
