BK-WSK .. sort of

I love the renderings you do, some are hilarious (bk kleaver anyone?)...theres some really strong ones in there. I would buy a BK tanto & bushcraft tweener tomo! ...and I'm not usually a fan of tantos, eh, thats not true...i like them, just not on short blades like folders i.e. kershaw blur tanto serrated, yuck! and I own one so I know. Speaking of blurs I just scored an S30V on the river for $55! I'm pretty pumped about that....what am I even talking about at this point? Why wont I just stfu already...ok, I'm babbling, no one cares....

I thought the bearded cleaver was bad ass myself.

If you like tantos, check out my FS thread in my sig....OP not trying to jack the thread, but it seems obvious that WSK ain't going anywhere 'cept your hard drive....unless you can get Murph to fork over his....

Those are amazing!
Your BK kukri looks super nice.

Thanks man, appreciate it. I have some designs I've never shown. I've never seen any like them before, and hope to have them made one day.

To each their own, but not for me. Have never been interested in that knife at all. Now, the M18...

See for me the M18 is just too much craziness(and I love choppers), but a small one like that actually does appeal to me. If TM was asked to make a TB tracker w/ Becker handles and the m18 was the result I think some lines got blurred, but what we have here is exactly that-a TB/Beck tracker with becker scales. I see I'm the odd man out but I like it. Ive been planning to buy a TB tracker for like two years and I would love to have the option to buy this thing instead...mainly cuz it would probably be 1/4 the cost of a tracker from TOPS.

I understand. The main reason I don't care for the Tracker, is that I feel the blade towards the end, where you chop, isn't long enough. I've never owned one, but have read reviews, and watched videos that pretty much say the same thing. I'm sure there's others that will disagree with me.

Well, you have misunderstood. The M-18 wasn't a result of me being asked to make a tracker. It was the result of me being asked to make a tracker. Which I did, and then found out that the tracker fell short as a chooper. As a matter of fact, it fell short on everything because there was a effort to make it compact. For everything the tracker claims it can do, it really can't achieve it because of its size.
If the M-18 isn't your thing thats totally O.K. and I respect that. But, I didn't make it for you nor was I the one that mentioned it in this thread. Most people that know me know that the tracker style knife is a thorn in my side, the reason, is because the thought behind that knife was so good, but the design was so bad. Yeah, it looks cool, and if you believe everything you see in the movies than I guess it is the bees knees. But, some people like to stay seated in reality. Fact is. You want a good chooper. Your not gonna get it in a compact platform.

Good to know I'm not the only one out there that could see this work :D

What'd they say about Jesus, Joan of Arc, Einstein, Bobby Fischer, Ghandi and Mother Teresa? They didn't cotton to them at first.
I love it. Awesome looking piece of art.

I kinda dig the silhouette, tho I agree with the comments about functionality. I modded a warthog's top a bit in that way, sans the saw spine

and also modded an Aitor Tercio which already had 2 different grinds. I flattened the serrations on the chisel grind, added choil and some curve to the spine

I don't claim it to be a WSK, I just like the way it looks now. For me it was purely an aesthetic operation.

I have seen chameleonbear post this a time or two:

Is that similar to what you were referring to?

Dupe, we didn't need a second posting, sorry folks.

I have a TB Tracker, and I'm a student at tracker school. There is an awful lot of misconceptions about that knife, and what it was designed for. Most of this comes from the movie that was literally writen around that knife, and then Tom. It's design has a lot of different functions intended. Most think the belly was designed for chopping, but it was actually designed for burning, and carving out bowls with chopping as a secondary function. The saw was designed to score bone, and notch fire boards with cutting wrist sized pieces as a tertiary function. The round cut out above the straight blade is not a nice place to batton. It's a hide scrape that's round to scrape better when the hide is laid over a log. The small curve in the blade transition is used as a quarter round for making arrows, but that was one of those pleasent design surprises that came about. It can also be used as a gut hook, but I never liked using it for that. My point is that Tom never intended that knife to be a great chopper at all, but he did want it to be used making a ton of useful items for wilderness survival. It's also balance for throwing like a tomahawk. Tom is crazy good at throwing that knife. Funny thing is, though, that's the only thing I've seen him do with it. He never uses that knife. Oh, and for the record, the TOPS version is the worst version made. But Ethan, and I both agree that the one thing TOPS did manage to get right is the handle. So, I doubt if he'd agree with changing it. We discussed that knife at SMKW back in October. But, I digress. The tracker is a good knife when used properly. Don't get one if you're thinking it will chop like a beast. I don't think Becker handles would solve that issue in the least. It would make for comfort, though. Oh, and sharpening is a total pain until you get used to it. I use small, narrow stones and a rat-tail diamond file.

On a related to the thread note I have designed a knife based on the same philosophies as the tracker WSK. And, I'm excited to say that TMHunt will be starting on it after January 1st sometime. I won't be posting any drawings, or specs on it yet, but will be fully discussing it after completion. I seriously cannot wait for it to become a reality. I've been working on the design for a few years, and just recently learned enough to fill the last puzzle piece. With Todd making it you all know it will be a thing of absolute beauty.

most of what i know from the knife are the Beck versions, and the "true copies" of that knife.

the movie was kinda secondary, and then Tom/tops with their marketing.

some other people have made their variations... Koster made one that actually chops like a mad thing - based on a Kukri of his own design. seriously, one of the finest tools i've ever used. would buy again. have two :D

Todd makes an excellent tool in the M18. liked it so much i own two as well. not sure if he would agree, but for me, the parang appeal is great.

Rick, i look forward to yours :D

still would like to own a Beck, and other variants. i'm stupid for tracker style.

but i won't buy a tops. sorry. i accept gifts. esp the damascus one :D

Wow, Bladite. I just checked out your thread about that Koster. Now that's a khuk-tracker for sure. It lookslike it chops really well. And, I've been a tracker nut for a while, too. But, I only owne a TOPS version, and was going to do some serious modding to it, but came up with my design instead. Most of us with advanced knife use knowledge/skill admire the tracker design, and enjoy it's uses. But, lately I've really been using my Beckers mostly. You're right not buying a TOPS. They really took the knife out of that knife if you follow me on that. ;)

I'm looking forward to posting up about my design. Thanks for the interest already. :)

can't wait.

send 5 samples to the address i will PM you :D for uh, storage and such :D

but no, can't wait :D
