Have always wanted a BK1 Brute. Even if it doesn't chop well, it looks bad ass. I'm not a big recurve fan, but I love the looks of the 1. I decided to do a rendering on my take of the Brute.

Stock. Lots of grinds and angles:

Rendered. Did a full flat grind, then swedged out the front, and the spine, much like the BK5. Should be lighter, and chop better. Still retains the looks of the BK1 also:

Could always make the swedge a little lower, and follow the contour of the edge more, like the original 1:

Could eliminate the recurve too, although not as sexy:

It would defiantly make it better at chopping, but I'm not a fan of the swedges being as short as they are.

Edit: After looking at it some more they are kind of growing on me

I really wish they were able to re-release the BK1 and the BK6. Last I heard it was impossible for Kabar to mass produce a 6 because they were not setup to make a blade of that size and on the BK1 it was not cost effective because of the complex grind angles. I wonder if a few minor changes like the ones you've made in your rendering above would make a Brute possible...

I dunno, but I'd like to have one. Added another rendering, dropping the swedge down a bit.

i like the rendering, it looks much cleaner, less "busy," and more functional.

I'm a bit ignorant on the bk1, but, what exactly were those complex grinds intended for?

Did away with the recurve. Not as sexy perhaps, but looks like a chopping machine.

I'll take an FFG Brute. You did good, Dubz. It looks badass. If they could make it in 1/4" stock, it would retain enough weight to be choppy, but still have the right thinness to be slicey. Man, that would be the shite.

Thanks man.

How about a canted handle. A bit like the 4.
It is canted a bit. Just get the 4, haha. ;)

looks like you modded it to a BK9 ... a brut is a brut is a brut love it, hate it, it is what it is. and even though I stripped mine I love it as a brute ..

just my .02 :-)

Oooh I love it without the recurve! I hate recurves, probably due to my lack of sharpening abilities.

I like the one with the lower swedge since it looks more functional than the original but also retains it's "bruteness". Nice work Dubz.

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

You think? The main point was, I would like to see the Brute re-released, but it seems that because of the complex grinds, etc, it wouldn't be feasible from a cost standpoint to do. This would be a viable option. The first, or second rendering, that is. I just made the non recurve version for the hell of it.

I don't know about the FFG. I don't have enough experience with one or the other (since I only own a BK2). However, I would LOVE a Brute without the recurve. I would jump all over that. Maybe we should pitch that to Tooj (or however he spells it). If giving up the recurve would make it more likely that Kabar would produce the knife, I would take it... As long as Mr. Becker was the one who does the redesigning. Also, I'm a rookie and sharpening a recurve may be beyond me. Especially in the field.

Also, hi everyone. I don't know if anyone noticed I was gone, but I'm back now. I've been in the process of moving and haven't had much time to do anything but lurk around here.

I think it chops fine. Sure their are others that chop better. I think it's main problem as a dedicated chopper is that it is a 1/4, slim it down like the 9 it would chop better. As a sheer beating tool though it's uhmmmm, well a brute.

You're not kidding, I've never handled one in person but from all the pictures and posts i can see, this thing looks well suited for any hard use task you could throw at it.
