I like my bk11, its the only becker i think looks best without scales, but sometime scales would be useful. Then i got to thinking, my firesteel striker was very easy to rust, so i pulled the striker out the molded plastic and sanded it then forced a patina on it and put it back in its holder. then a lightbulb came on. what if we had grivory or plastic molded SLIP ON/off scales. something molded with a tight enough hole that the handle clicks in, like how a kydex sheath locks the blade in, but molded for a hand. then no tools or hardware would be needed and it would only take seconds to put on and take off. the handle could be long enough for a full grip. obviously the bottle opener wouldnt be accessible with it on, but who would care if it only took sliding the grip off.
I wouldnt pay 30 bucks for micarta on a bk11, when it doesnt improve the length of the grip and i think it looks better without them, but if i could slip them on and off and it would improved the length of the handle then that would be worth more than 30 to me.
What do you guys think? would this be possible? i guess a better question would be how could this be done.
