bk11 or 14???

ive got both and theyre both great little blades.i use the 14 for edc and the 11 for outdoors and fire prep.

They're both good. I have scales on both, and as such, prefer the 14.

One of the the thing I like better about the 14 is the way in which the handle curves down to the guard.
I actually let out my 11 a little bit to curve in similar fashion. I may still yet let it out some more.

Well I think "heavy field work" may have been a little overstated. I guess my point is, last time I went out I was grabbing my remora alot for small chores ie: making tinder, batoning small wood, cutting cord, shaving stakes and odds and ends which made it feel like I was using the hell out of it (don't worry though, my 2 got plenty of play time). I think the 11 or 14 would both do 100% better for what I need them to do. But its like chosing between cake and ice cream. Either way, ill be buying one tomorrow and post some pics when she gets in.

I think the handle of the 14 is better, unless I want to open a beer.
This except for the beer part, I use the spine of my blade levered against one of my knuckles to pop them off, faster than the 11 and it launches the caps across the room.

I don't have an 11, but I do have a 14 and I'd say it's pretty comfortable in hand.

My 14 has just a simple paracord wrap that extends all the way down and around the handle. I also have an Izula (same exact handle as the 14) with the ESEE micarta and I find it less comfortable in hand compared to my 14. I think it's because the paracord actually increases the handle circumference and fills the hand better imo.

Now if I could only mod the 14 to include a bottle opener.....

Just remember... 14-lovers who say the 11's handle is too small simply need to realize that their hands are actually unnecessarily large. IOW get the 11.

what do you mean unnecessarily large?
if my hands were smaller I would not be able to palm ammo cans, anvils, 454 heads, or bowling balls? :D

I think that means that if we were to shake your hand it would feel like a bushel of bananas?

Now that you've described your "hard use", I think I would still go for a 14 first, especially if you feel like you'll end up with both anyway.

Reasoning for me would be that I'm less likely to feel inclined to buy scales for it right off, and so it will save me some money for more beckers :).

There's 3 possible solutions to this question...

1.) Buy the OG BK-11, it has the bottle opener!
2.) Buy the BK-14 because the increased handle size is more comfortable.
3.) Buy both because really, you will end up acquiring both no matter what you think.

Good call, Ark!

I have both, love both. That is to say, I really don't think there's a bad choice to be made here.

...and a gold membership...lol

Get both, you have two hands. I have both I still don't know which I like better, I'm waiting on some scales for the 14 to show up then it will probably win.

Well just a minute ago, thanks to all the great feedback I recieved, I went ahead and ordered the bk14 eskabar. I was really influenced by the comments on comfort in the handle. And personally when I get the 11 I feel the need to go ahead and buy the scales to go along with it. So for now, when she arrives at my doorstep I'm gonna wrap that handle in cord and bask in the goodness that is Becker knives. Any suggestions for out of box testing?

Baton through a toolbox. But you will then be told you ain't good enough and then will be asked to baton rebar. Don't succumb to the peer pressure unless you've got the silky smooth voice of Barry white and the nimble fingers on a concert violinist on a belt sander.......

Cut stuff. You hunt? Go carve up a pheasant. You don't? Go carve up that stray cat that's been bugging ya. Ya vegan? Dice up some tofu and watch dancing with the stars on your satellite TV from your occupy wherever camp.

Nice pick btw, we will need pics when it arrives

My take is if you want just a bare handle or paracord wrap..go for the 14. If you are going to put micarta, wood, etc scales on it then definitely the 11.

I always put scales on my knives so I go BK11 every time ( too many times lol). I will admit that I do some tweeking to get it the way I like them.

I saw the thread with the 11 making a tool box just that much more handy. Brilliant.
