Thank you very much! I just used some Craftsman Files. A double cut file to remove most of the material, then a single cut to remove the coarser file lines. Then took a smaller single cut file, taped some worn 150 emery cloth around it, and went to town cleaning up the rest of the markings. Just marked the surface area I was working on with a sharpie so I could make sure I was cutting even. Marking like this gives you better visual clues on what you are doing, just a bit of a tip for you.
