Its hard to decide which I want. Would be for hiking and when ever needed in the woods. What do you guys like the best? Thanks

16, for sure. The handle on it will make it much more useful.

BK-16 (or BK-17) for sure as a practical woods knife with a very comfortable handle. The BK-14 is nice, but most will want something larger too. The BK-16 is my favorite. Get the BK-14 later. I'm surprised that you aren't looking at the BK-2 also, but I believe you're on the right track.

Okay thank you. I've been carrying my Gerber lmf for awhile. Is the sheath size going to be smaller then the lmf?

GET BOTH! In all seriousness if you are going to be using it full time go with the 16... the 14's utility is pretty incredible for its size and it makes a great EDC and crafting blade, but for a dedicated blade you would probably want something more... plus the tweener handles are excellent. I do not think the 16 is as wide as the LMF and I think the entire package is smaller than the LMF the BK10 would be more comparable to the LMF... with the beckers being 100x's better. --(opinion! ;) but true)

Back on the get both front... yah if you have the funds I would recommend it... :D

Definitely the 16, though the 24 in D2 is a nice backup having the extra corrosion resistance. They both ride in my pack, along with a Laplander saw.

BK16. I didn't even read the stuff, but the answer is 16. Always 16.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Will definitely get the bk16 and later down the road the bk14. I do own the bk2 but i use that for overnight trips when I know ill be out awhile.

Hey Bering.......

Good choice, I think.....Always have an 11 or 14 along in a pocket or around my neck....16 on the belt or in the field bag with the other gear........ . Thanks for being so supportive of my designs.....

Ethan

Funny you posted this. I just picked up a bk16 today and love it. Just now saw this post.

The BK14 (and BK11) handle is too small for my hand, so that's a dealbreaker for me. Go with the 16 (or the tweener of your choice).

I've heard around here before that you can do small knife tasks with a big knife but never big knife tasks with a small knife. I'd go with the 16 hands down.

I've got the 14 and the 17. So far I've found the 14 more useful, but that's because it rides in my lower side pocket while my 9 sits on my belt. Here the 14 is exactly at arm's length and insanely easy to reach, draw, use and resheathe. So far I just haven't found a use for my 17 yet.

Listen to them^^^^^^^^^They are wise, vary wise Especially the bottom one:D:D

Where's a good place to get the bk16? And any advice on a knife sharpener? Looking for something not to complicated to use. Thanks

I'll put out another option and say the 15. I love mine. Incredibly useful. Plus you get a bit more length if you like that.

I have been using my 16 more and more lately and i think it has a lot to do with the new handles i got from tommy the who. The stock hanes arw great but the hardwood handles do make it better... It is a great blade and works very well.
Cheers

I would suggest Tomars due to pricing even though I have never bought anything from them. I get interested and then something like the Rep weekend at that knife store in Sevierville TN happens. Cost is more usually, but I still buy. There is something about being able to pick it up and look at the knife you're going to buy that is worth something. They are sold at many of the online retailers.

Ethan's suggestion of Norton's India Stone (coarse and fine) worked very well by the way. He suggested that to me last weekend and it sharpened up both the -14 and -7 very nicely. He suggested that you use WD-40 versus oil. Just use the fine side. This is a bench stone and runs around $15. It works very well with 1095. I'm not sure about some of the super steels. Time will tell. My answer was always DMT in the past (large coarse and fine diamond stone, but it runs in the $50 area).
