Where can I get one to ensure that I get the one with the updated sheath?

Any reputable dealer, the sheath change happened quite a while ago. In other words, if you buy a new 14 and it has sheath dulling issues it's not a NEW new 14, if that makes any sense.
I'd go with Tomar's Ka-Bars or MoosezBladez if I were you.

I'll chime in here cuz my wife bought me a 14 for my birthday last month.

No, you should not buy one. I can guarantee you'll want at least two, probably 3 or 4. I know I need at least 2 more, but funds won't allow it yet.

The effort it takes to NOT tear into a knife and mod the snot out of it, when I've received it as a gift, is brutal, but I don't want to start that particular fight. She buys me knives and doesn't mind the ones I buy, either!
