Yup. And the versatility of many machete patterns means that with a little creativity you can do nearly anything with 'em.

In truth my BK9 is used almost exclusively for chopping purposes. A dedicated machete would likely serve me better for such, but the BK9 is more compact than even the smallest of machetes.

I wouldn't worry about it much. Explaining the purpose of heavy-duty knives to someone who just doesn't like 'em is like trying to feed a vegan a steak or teach a pig to sing... it's a waste of time that just ends up ticking off everyone involved.
