BK2 - BK7 - BK9 - BK10 Comparisons/differences/suggestions?

Well it's been 4 days since I received my first Becker, the BK16, and it looks like I'm hooked:o Such a beautiful knife shouldn't have to be all alone so I'm looking for an older sibling. (whatever I gotta tell myself, right?)

I'm looking at the BK2, BK7, BK9, and BK10 models, I've managed to see the BK2 in person in a shop but none around me are carrying all 4 at the moment and I really want a side by side comparison.

I know that they are all on the larger side and are for heavy duty action but beyond that I'm not sure what all their differences are and what that means for each knife in the way it handles.

I've tried to find a picture of all four lined up next to each other but I'm not having any luck with that.

So has anyone who has used one or more of these have any thoughts on each one and feel like comparing them?

Also, when does this compulsion to get more and more Beckers go away, LOL, I think my wife is starting to catch on that I'm still looking at knives after the one I ordered arrived :)

Hope that helps.

That's perfect, exactly what I was looking for - thank you!

Are those all yours, have you had a chance to use them a lot?

No problem. You are welcome.

And yes those are mine, my un-modded set. lol

All my users are modded and stripped. I do use them a lot. My favorite two large Becker models are the BK-10 and BK-12 (RSK MK2). They get the most use. Then the BK-9. The BK-7 is my least favorite Becker but some people love it.

I just bought a BK10 over the BK2 myself. I was looking for something in the length of the BK2 but not quite as thick and heavy. The BK10 fit the bill. The BK12 seems awesome too but, not easy to find and pretty pricey.

Thanks from me also! Good comparison photo, as I am also learning at the font of Beckerdom. Cheers.

I was out in the garage today playing with some blades and thought I'd take a pick of some of my users for comparison.

I'm still working on that BK-7, de-ramped it but have a few more things to do to it before I will be happy.

You, Sir, have my appreciation and admiration. That's a beautiful collection!

That is a beautiful and inspiring collection, Dexwithers! What puts you off with the BK7, if I may ask?

Dexwithers,

If you don't mind me asking - since you have and use all of those models do you find yourself using certain blades for certain jobs? Is it more which knife do you feel like using today and use that one all day?

Thanks!

Thank you! I love my collection. Seems hard to believe It all started with a single BK-2.

Well, When I first started collecting Beckers, I go the BK-2 then a few months later I ordered the BK-7 and BK-9 cause I couldn't decide which one I needed more. I did like the BK-7 at first but still not as much as the BK-2 or BK-9. Then I got the BK-12 sometime after and fell in love. The BK-7 in My opinion, is not as appealing to look at as the 12 and some of the other Beckers and also in my experience, doesn't perform as well for my needs. I don't like clip or the swedge on top of the blade cause it really digs into and destroys a baton. The 2 and 12's spine are way better for that. I moded my BK-10 to get rid of the clip as well. Also, I think the 7's length does more to hurt its performance than help. I found that even tho the 12 is shorter, I can chop just as well with it. For other tasks, The extra length get's in the way. Yes the nine is longer, but the extra length is justified for the awesome chopping capabilities and the fact that you can baton larger pieces of wood and still avoid hitting the swedge with your baton. The BK10 is also a better knife than the 7 in My opinion cause I can do almost the same stuff plus some with a lot shorter blade. I think the BK-7 was designed to be a fighting knife so I will give it props for that, If I had to pick a knife to defend myself with, the BK-7 would most certainly get the job done. But as far as outdoors type stuff, The Becker line has far better options. Just my thoughts tho. There will be lot's of guys that disagree with me on this. Just ask C_Tanner which knife he prefers? (BK-7)

I Guess it is all based on personal taste, experiences, and preference. Thats why I like Becker knives, There is something for everyone in the line up. And if you don't like a Becker the way it is, Modding it is easy and isn't frowned upon!! :D
I hope to mod the 7 into something awesome but at the moment, It just doesn't do it for me.

Hope that answers your question and sorry for all the rambling. lol

Haha, yes sometimes I do just pick one but each one has it's own purpose in my life.

Start with the nine. Best chopper besides the BK-4 which is about the same. It is a great knife to baton with and can also do some smaller cutting chores but it is best paired up with one of the tweeners (BK-15, 16, or 17) or the BK-11 or BK-14/24 to cover all situations.

The BK-5 is a super cool knife. I use it mostly for food prep and processing large parts of a deer for the freezer or meat grinder.
I don't do much wood processing with it because it is probably my sharpest Becker and I want it to stay that way! haha
However, it is quite capable as a woods knife and is the best slicer in the Becker line.

Ehh... not much more to say about the BK-7.

The BK-12 is one if my go to blades. A pleasure to use and feels great in the hand and I try to use it as much as possible. If SHTF and I could only take one knife, this would be the one!!

The BK-10 is another favorite of mine. Especially after a few mods. I probably use this one more that the others at the moment cause it is usually always with me. I know it is a little large for an EDC blade, But when ever I leave the house, it is usually on my belt. It's very similar to the 12 in a many ways. I do recommend removing the Swedge for a better experience tho.

The Beloved BK-2. Everyone's first it seems like. Great knife. I really don't use it as much as I used to cause I'm finding that I don't need such a think knife and I don't care for the extra weight. Still a blast to use and is a great one knife option as well.

I do use the smaller Beckers too. My BK-11 was my EDC for over a year and still get's rotated into the mix. The BK-16 is also a favorite of mine for bushcraft stuff, Food prep, and EDC and I use the BK-15 for most of my food prep.

Wow, so many choices, I really don't think I could pick a "wrong" Becker (like that exists!) but I want to make sure I get the more right Becker...for now...until it's time for another....when does it stop!?!?!

I'm really tempted by the BK 2, it was the first Becker I saw and it was a tough choice between it and the BK 16 I ended up getting (man these Becker knives are awesome!).

I have seen a lot of "you can't not have a BK 9" comments in other posts and I'm tempted to go right for the King.

On the other hand the BK 10 looks really, really nice and the BK 7 is kind of a cross of the BK 9 and BK 10.

Decisions, decisions...

I was in your boat last week, I wanted the 7 at first. Then captivated by the 2 and its indestructibleness. I decided the 10 was exactly what I was looking for though. Good length and thickness for whatever comes your way. Prob get the 9 next.

Well you have small and light covered so I would say go the other way and get the BK9. You need a 9, you can't not have a 9. Really between the 9 and 16 you're pretty well covered for most cutting chores. Get a leatherman and a good machete and, theoretically, you could call it good and never buy another blade. Not that I would ever actually encourage such a thing.

My 10 just came in today. Man, in Two weeks I've picked up (2) BK 11's, a 14 and now a 10, glad my wife understands.:)
