BK2 - BK7 - BK9 - BK10 Comparisons/differences/suggestions?

All this great advice and I'm still undecided, lol, even though there's really no wrong choice, all of these knives are beautiful and would be a great way to add a 2nd knife to my collection!

If you don't get the BK9 next, it will get angry. And you do not want to see the BK9 when it's angry.

The 7 is large enough for many camp/preparation needs and compact enough to be a very comfortable package to carry, especially when size/weight issues are important.

There are no wrong answers in the BK lineup, it really just depends on what YOU prefer. That sounds like a cop-out, but it's I speak the truth! Ultimately you're going to own somewhere between most and all of the BKs anyway, so the real question at this point is---------------------which one do you want first? If you've got the 16 already, then the BK9 would be a great choice since it's at the extreme end of the spectrum and your bases would be well covered. Then as you save up for the next one, try the BK2. Buy the BK7 last, and I think you'll more completely appreciate it's awesomeness at that point. It has most of the reach of the BK9, weighs less than the BK2, and has superb balance while being more than strong enough for any real-world uses. OR you could skip all that and buy the BK7 first and have a great knife, but you might not fully appreciate what you've got. ;)

I'm new here and I think I just got infected with this Becker disease. Just got my BK9 from LAPG and won a BK2 w/o the extended pommel.

The BK16 is such a sweet knife; forgive the pun but it should be called the Sweet Sixteen!

In the larger range of Becker knives, the 5 is my favorite. But it gives way to others int he chopping and batoning departments. In that regard, face it, you can't not have a 9 - so just get it over with and succumb to the inevitable!

The 2 is great - truly a tank; everyone should have one just because.

Other than the 2, those shorter/thinner Big Beckers are going to overlap too much into the functionality territory of your wonderful 16. Hence, another plug for the mighty 9.

My son loves the 7; I see it as a jack of all trades and master of none. It's a very good "One Knife" but I do not want one knife, and apparently neither do you.:D

Hope that helps.

Hey Tate (I got that right I hope.. I just remember its not Dex :p).

I keep wondering this every time I see these knives (since I only own the 9 and the 2), but is the chord narrower on the 12/10/7? From the looks I'd say so, but its hard to tell.

On the BK9 the lower guard is as "low" as the edge of the blade. On the 10/12/7 that guard protrudes lower than the edge of the blade. Also, it looks like the 9 has a lower saber grind than the rest of them, but I think its just the added chord on "top", meaning I think the primary grinds are the same... right?

Anyway, I know its off topic, but I have been curious about this one for a while, and saw your photo and thought I'd ask.

Cheers :).

Oh, and I'm a two knife type of person too. BK9 for me, and then a tweener (or actually, usually a Mora).

Right now my most carried and used are the 16 and the 11. I want a 7. Problem is I dont need one. I work in an office and cut food mostly, and at best I open packages/boxes. I want to go camping more and this would fit the bill. I would end up modding it a bit, dropping the point or at least removing a little bit of the swedge. I like its length. Ideally a 12 the size of a 7.

To me the 16 is a great camp knife, it can do a lot but not chop. I dont want another 5" knife so the 7 just seems right. It would be so much simpler if there was a local brick and mortar near by...or maybe I would be permanetly in the dog house

Get the 9 ! I use my 9 the most

I have the 9, 10, 5, 16, 15. I agree the 2 is too thick for my needs, 7- I thought the length I would not like for what it is

Also have a Esee 6 I like, and a Junglas

strangegeek,

Just food for thought, have you considered the 20 package direct from Kabar? A 20 (big chopper), 4 (versatile chopper, work knife) and 5 (large camp knife/slicer) for $200 w/free shipping to your house. The 20 is a limited edition knife and 4 and 5 are discontinued. If you think you would ever want these, get em now!

Good suggestion and a good deal. All though not any of the blades you asked about still something worth thinking about.

Yes chord is narrower on 7. Lower guard is identical on 9, 7 and 10, so that gives you something to compare to, and from what i can see (without measuring), primary grind is about the same angle. Also, on my Beckers, grind is not 100% symmetrical, so hard to tell if something is "by design" or it just happened due to manufacturing. But I would assume, primary angle, by design, is probably the same.

Thank's Bigghoss. Kind of funny though.

Well, at least you read the post. A lot of folks only respond to the OP and don't read anything else in the thread. I've seen threads go for weeks after becoming moot.

Moot? I recommend them all. Relevance? Pah. Beckers = get some. More is better. The 9 is bestest. The 20 & 21 are higher numbers, so....but the 24 is higher still. I like Ethan, but I think maybe he learned math in a foreign country. Better to have names, no maths.

Alrighty, then. I think I'm done here. Carry on.
