Hi, guys first off I would like to say this forum is a great resource to the novice knife nut like myself that is the reason I'm posting this, not to complain about anything. I just purchased a bk2 and let me say it is a wonderful knife so for I can't wait to use it in the field, but I have to say it was rather dull when it came in but I have gotten knives that were dull before didn't think it was a big deal but when I looked at the edge it was very uneven one side was the right angle about 20 degrees but the other was way off, took me about four hours to put a working edge on this knife and like I said I'm a novice at best all I have is a sharpmaker and some emery cloth, but boy I had to remove some metal just wanted others to be aware that they might get one like this and might be dissatisfied about what they get from the factory. Again I really like the knife and for the price I'm willing to take a little inconvenience, looking forward to the responses. Thanks

Where did you buy it?

There have been known to be some uneven grinded knives on the store that sounds like Amazing.

I don't know whats up with that... I got my BK9 from them and the edge was f'd up. Nothing I couldn't fix, but still...

My 2 came in the exact same condition. Kind of a bummer but the factory edge on my BK9 made up for it.

If any of you guys are unhappy with the grinds, put a call into Kabar or send an email, they will make you happy with your purchase. Some of the knives that went a while back, had some bad edges, we saw a rash of guys on here that were making note of it.

Granted, its nothing that can't be fixed, but if it took you 4hrs with a sharp maker, then it sounds like it was really off.

We like to hear the good with the bad, and stuff like this helps.

Where did ya'll get it from, and how long ago?

Email or PM me, please. I'm curious.

I purchased mine on amazon, I though about saying something to kabar but figured it was a fluke, I still don't have it shaving sharp but I'll try to get it there I think i can do it with the emery cloth but next time I'll buy from a more reputable dealer

i've never gotten a bad one yet. maybe i'm lucky?

I once got a 9 from the river store once that had obviously been used and returned. I also returned it hopefully it didn't get passed on to another person.

The BK2 I received today is similar to the OP, uneven grind and dull.

Do I care....hell no, I enjoy sharpening things.

My bk2 was a little off but half hour later with a lanky and a strop it kinda scared me with the shaving sharpness!I beat the heck out of it and it doesn't lose much edge at all.My 9 was good when it arrived. Both from that river store.I like putting that first really polished edge on a knife anyway,it's part of the fun. The 11,14,13 were good also.

Mine is still plenty sharp, although I'm thinking about doing a full convex on it. I'd definitely suggest to the OP to send that sucker into Ka-bar. They have fantastic CS.

Mine was evan but not sharp when I got it. I used a homemade contraption to convex it, and now it will push cut phonebook pages :) If the bevel was unevan though I would call ka-bar

if it's already been fixed, why call KaBar other than to alert them

I would think they'd want to hear about it, even if you're not sending it back. I've never gotten a bad one either, but I practice clean living and drive a Jeep.

the bk2 i bought a couple weeks ago came in perfect super sharp and perfect grinds no need to touch up the edge.

Well fellas I'm getting there now almost shaving sharp, after a few strips of 180 grit emery cloth on the sharpmaker and a few coors lights I almost got it.haha

My bk2 and bk11 came from the river too. The bk2 mowed a patch of hair off my arm without even feeling it. That's scary sharp. Haven't been able to get it that good again. The grind at the tip was barely off, but one decent sharpening took care of that. The bk11 was shaving, but not as sharp as the bk2. I must be the majority. LOL.
