hi everyone

Im quite new to the collecting side of knives but i recently become interested. I have wanted a good survival knife and after reading many reviews decided on a becker bk2. I was considering an esee 5 or gerber lmf but the gerber has had quite a few bad reviews and the esee goes for $250 to 300 dollars here in australia and is a little pricey for me at the moment. Just wondering if the bk2 i bought is a good knife to start with. Has anyone here had experience with this blade??

Also i am interested in some micarta handles for this bad boy, does anyone have a good website to buy these from?

Another question i am interested about and will probably have to be answered by a fellow aussie - I bought the bk2 in Australia because i was not sure and unable to find out whether or not you can get a sheathed knife from overseas through our customs. Does anyone know if this could have been done. This is probably a question i should have asked earlier as i had my heart set on the esee 5 which i could have gotten from the us for the same price i paid for my bk2 :(

Thanks for your answers

The Becker Sub Forum will be far more helpful for this question. My limited take(as I'm working up a comparison review of the BK2 and the BK7),really depends on what you plan to use it for....thing is a mass of steel and some people love them, I personally for the weight would rather have more length, so I bought a BK 7 a few days ago after being loaned a 2 from a kind user here. I really won't say much more at this time...I want to do a proper opinion review.

I'm sure KABAR has someone that sells the scales in Australia(Tomars KABARS here in the states is pretty cheap on them). You're getting a whale of a knife for the money, would it compare to the Esee? No... totally different animals.

Far as Australian imports, I haven't a clue but have a friend in Japan gets knives from the States all the time with no issues...long as under 7".

No you didn't ... you didn't just say that.

'Dem 'Dare are fightin' words

You gonna' be in it now (LOL)

Bk2 is a beast and it will take whatever you can dish out. Micarta can be had on a popular auction site but not sure of shipping to down under. As for customs I have no idea. Good choice on the bk2

Fight over what? people want to flame me over that so be it....wait till I review it.

I thought we were all adults after all.

No need to go gettin' your panties all in a bunch there brother.

I was just trying to be a little bit funny about a debate that has been ongoing for a while (BK 2 vs. ESEE 5)

(maybe you're not aware)

But, not for nothing, to say "would it compare to the ESEE? No ... totally different animals" is just dead wrong.

One I'm flying commando atm, Two it totally isn't anything like the 5. Three I'm not your brother.

No clue about your import questions but you made a great purchase, OP. Here - enjoy some fun BK2 stuff as you relax in the knowledge that you have spent your money well...

It whittles tiny spoons and forks and things...

It chops seasoned oak for no good reason...

What's not to love?

As to not being able to compare to the ESEE... <snort!>

WOW

As far as three, I guess we can thank God

As far as one ... WAAAAAAAAY TMI

And two ... you're right ! How could I have missed it !

They're both 1/4 "
They're both 1095
They're both 5"
They're both High Rockwell

Totally dissimilar ... TOTALLY ! :D

Troll?

I was the one told to not get my 'panties in a knot' or whatever.

And I'll argue that there is no real comparison between the Esee and the 2 all day long, what cracks me up is heaven forbid someone might make a remark against a BK&T even in the 'slightest' (particularly the Companion) among not only persons on this forum but others, and then all of a sudden you put up with 'know it all' attitude crap, because you said something against what some people view as a great tool(the holy grail of outdoor knives)....disagree....then you are subject to ridicule....I find it very comical. And I don't 'completely' dislike the knife

And I have been using one in countless applications and was asked by the person that loaned it to me to post and review it here as part of getting the loaner...I still plan to, I've enjoyed having the op to use one. that I may or may not think it's great, or other issues I have with it....well we are all entitled to our opinions.

And yes I had an Esee 5 that I used for a long time that was a loaner. How an individual views and uses a tool is subjective, and people won't always agree.

Don't need to bring my lack of underwear into it.

OK enough already guys before this innocent Aussie question gets shut down. Different strokes different folks and leave it at that.

I like the bk2, I used to love it until I had a bk10. As I progress in my skills I see less of a need for such a thick piece of steel and the size comparison with the bk10 less some weight was good for me. The bk2 or esee 5 are both great knives and a great one knife starting point, since you won't need more knife. The blade shapes are slightly different and having owned both I like the shape of the drop point on the bk2 solely for drilling and tip control. But there are plenty that like the esee better. As for the different handles well that's personal preference and you won't know until you use both which you like more. Personally I like the bk5 the best :D

No worries. It's a message board for sake .... Sometimes humor and sacrcasim don't come across well.

You're right about folks LIKING different things. The 2, while a great knife, isn't one of my favorites either (Moose don't read this - lol) :D

All I was pointing out is the blades of 2 and the ESEE 5 actually are very similar, (size, feel, weight, composition, ability, etc.) that's why they're compared a lot, debated alot, hell someone even made a vid of them beating the snot out of each other. Hey - it is what it is.

Again - no worries.

There's also the 10, if you manage to get your lucky paws on one, direct from Ka-bar, and I'm pretty sure they ship overseas. But you picked a fine knife for sure. Whatever anyone can say about it, if you look over in the Becker subforum, you'll see lots of evidence of how great the knife is. Durable, sharp, reliable. A bit heavy for my tastes for a knife that short, but it's definitely a fine knife. Many people prefer them over the ESEE knives just because the ESEE handles are reportedly less comfortable and more blocky, while the Becker dogbone handles are more ergonomic.

don't you ever get tired of sharing those pics?

No. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? One belligerent post after another from you - perhaps a nap is in order.

To the OP - once you get the new beastie, I hope you snap some nifty pictures to share with your BladeForums buddies. :D
