BK2 Issue.

Well I don't mean to nit-pick but the blade shape of my BK2 seems to be wrong. Just looking at it, it seems the belly curve up to the point is flatter than normal as in it does not have the full rounded look. Looks like it is missing a few mm's of metal from the curve. I thought they were all punched out with the same tool, and would therefore all be the same shape. Is this normal?

Pics? Preferably comparison shots. . Did you buy it new or used?

Ok, this is what I'm talking about. The knife is new and unused and is compared to my BK2 user.

And on on top of the other.

All of the BK2 are made from identical blanks, but that something that would have happened when profiling that blank, which I am nearly positive is done by hand.

If it still cuts than it nothing to worry about ;)

Yup, that's an issue. Contact Kabar, let them know whats going on, and they will take care of you. It looks as if it was ground too deep.

I like it. It seems a little pointier. If it takes a good edge, i'd keep it. Gives it character IMHO.

it's more like a spear point now ;)

but if you wanted that, buy a BK12... some people DO want that belly curve drop point action. makes skinning and other tasks easier, yes?

as above. contact KaBar, though they do look in here a lot. that last picture is very telling.

oh, and they're not stamped out. afaik, they are identical laser cut blanks, which are then hand profiled/etc. can't explain the grind on that one. just very weird.

Looks like the grinder's mind wandered for a minute. I can certainly relate to that. I had to regrind a pile of Condors and about the fifteeth one, I was building log houses. Bottom line, it's not a BK2 as it was designed by Ethan. I'd be willing to bet Ka-bar will take care of you on that like the guys said.

I keep coming back to your pics and I can't get over that shape. I freaking love it. I think it would prob allow for it to be used for field dressing. Which I always wanted the 2 to be able to do. One knife for hunting and camping.

I could see it as soon as I seen the first picture. I'd contact Kabar like Moose said, but you never know it could prove more useful to you the way it is. Or just trade it to Clich, he seems pretty interested. :)

By the power of photoshop...

The tell for me was looking at the saber grind in that area and seeing that more meat had been taken off the blade there. Spine to spine, there is less blade on that than your user.

If its sharp and sturdy still, I just got a custom id like to trade for it if your interested. Im telling ya im in love with the shape

I'd contact Ka-Bar and see what they could do for me. Their customer service has been pretty good, and they stand by their products. good luck man.

So moose if he ships it back to Kabar can you use your moose man super powers of persuasion to have em sell it to me? I want it

Yeah, I can, actually.

Appreciate all your replies.
Well according to Ka-Bar, such variations in blade shape are acceptable and “not considered a warranty issue” and “should not affect performance”. I don’t think this is cool. I thought I ordered a BK2. If what they are saying is, regardless of blade shape, it should still cut, then I may as well have purchased any other knife. I think this blade shape is significantly different. To add to that it was delivered very blunt, as in I don't think I could cut myself if i tried, but thats another story and I can sharpen it myself. Just makes you feel a little cheated.
They did offer to exchange it for me if I ship it all they way back to America. I live in Australia and shipping is very expensive. I have already paid for shipping once when I purchased. If they could just get it right the first time and send me what I ordered, I would not have to pay for shipping again just to end up with what I ordered the first time.
Anyway, I’m annoyed right now…and might be overreacting. Still a Becker fan though…
