BK2 mod and how i effed myself. advice needed.

More pics! I don't even know what this thread is about but we need more pictures!

He screwed up and didn't shape the handles before attaching them permanently to the knife.

i sense Derek was being facetious. i have learned quickly that he values pictures highly. all the other stuff is just noise. :)

i'll see what i can do derek. i may actually start fiddling with the BK2 this afternoon.

Drive it point down into a stump. Two licks with a sharp hatchet and they're off. If you're accurate.

And btw...just to clarify...i wasn't asking how to get the scales off. i have done this before. i was asking how to shape the blade-end of a set of scales once they were already glued on.

with that said, i think i do have the answer. thanks everyone.

i'll post ups some pics as i try to overcome my stupidity.

then, i'll give 'er a look and decide if i have a keeper, or if i need to pick the best suggestion for getting the scales off. ;)

When I've messed up handles I smash them off with a chisel...Just run a chisel along either the front or back of the handle material and tang and give it a good hit...I find it works well without damaging the scales or knife itself, even if really strong epoxy is used.

I have done this a couple times but with a screwdriver... my chisel set was at work.

I'd take an aluminum can and use it to make a "blade guard" then tape that in place to protect the blade instead of just using tape. Should be able to stand up better to the
occasional slip

ok guys. i got some pics for ya. and yes...i'm looking at you Derek. :)

here is a better shot of the boo-boo (not my thumb....the knife handle).

i'll tell you what...that G10 is a son of a bitch to get off. tough stuff.

i have more work to do, but i like it good enough to continue on with the project.

thanks again for the suggestions and moral support.

anyone ever done this? got any advice at the best way of shaping, now that is already glued up?

Tape a thin piece of metal across the blade where it meets the handle (the ricarso area) then you can confidently go at with any power tool without scratching the blade.

I actually really like the look of that...It looks a little thin, but I always have that issue with homemade micarta too...Otherwise, awesome!

yeah. i removed too much material. agreed. a bit too thin. but, with that said...it's still comfortable in the hand.
