Ok, so I'm new to the knife frenzy, but been looking at adding the bk2 to my collection. after reading reviews the only thing I've seen bad is the factory sheath is horrible. Looking on knife center i came across the bk22, with seems to be the bk2 with new polyester spec ops looking sheath. However i can't find any info about it, ha anyone her handled it? Better than the other sheath? Seems it's new release for 2013.

The new sheath is comparable to the sheaths that they are now using with the others, 7, 9, 4, etc...

Here are the sheaths that Kabar has made in order of production:

Gen I Kydex

Gen II Injection Molded Glass Impregnated Nylon

Gen III Cordura Nylon

If you are into that kind of sheath it is nicely made, but personally I don't see anything wrong that a very minimal amount of effort cannot fix with the stock injection molded sheath. To each their own though.

Does it "rattle around like the 7 sheath does? That was my main concern as i hate how the bk7 i just got doesn't fit snug in the sheath.i prefer the nylon over kydex as I'm not fond of how high the kydex sheath seem to ride on the hip, bit want my knife to be secure not rattling around as i walk.

The new nylon sheath for the 2 (and 10 I think?) is probabaly as good as the rest of the nylon sheaths for the 4, 5, 7, 9 and tweeners which is pretty damn decent, roughly 8/10 IMO. The original nylon sheaths were ok but were overly bulky and the plastic liner was really loose causing the blade to rattle around but these new ones really are much better.

So basically this isn't any real improvement over the other sheath and costs more as a bk22 than regular bk2. I was just curious if I would need to get a spec ops sheath for the 2 when I get one for my 7 or If this new one would be about the same.

The fix for rattle in the sheaths such as the 7, is way easy. Just cut a strip of cardboard about 3/4 - 1" wide and just a little shorter than the plastic insert in the sheath. Slide the strip of cardboard between the insert and the cordura. Slide it down as far as it will go and it will disappear. It will provide just a bit of pressure inwards. I usually do 1 strip on the front and 1 on the back side of the insert. This works very well and totally eliminates the rattle.

Not to badmouth BKs but I hate the GFN sheaths and the nylon ones are a big improvment IMO. As I said, they're probabaly about the same quality as the new sheaths being put out by Ka-Bar, the slimmer, MOLLE backed sheaths. If you have a new BK-7 sheath and don't like it then chances are you won't like the nylon 2 sheaths.

Well i thought my mind was made up to get the regular bk2 until i went into knifecenter.com (the office is within driving distance for me) and they're sold out. I'm not one to be patient for online orders to arrive especially when I'm going out of town for a month tomorrow.so i got the bk22 they had in stock. I'm actually quite happy with the polyester sheath.knife is held snug no annoying rattling around like it's counterparts.only complaint i have with it is again life the bk7 sheath, the sheath is about 2.5"longer than the actual knife. But other than it not being the length of the knife Its not a bad sheath. Would def take it over the stock kydex.

I think you made the right decision. Looking back on my BK2 purchase, I would have chosen the 22 in a second. I have never used the plastic sheath, I use a spec ops.

Any chance of a picture of the BK-2 next to the new sheath? Is the plastic liner portion of the sheath significantly longer than the blade, or is it just the style of sheath?

Erik
