BK2 or 10

Seems to be spilt decisions. Thanks for all the input. Keep it coming.

I like weight in blades but not to much so the 10 has my vote. But I like beefy knives so the 2 has a vote!

Decisions! I think either way I'd be happy.

Anybody have a preference on the jimping on the 10? Is it to robust? Or better knocked down a bit?

I like the 2. It is a stout knife, but can easily take care of more refined tasks. The weight has never been an issue for me.

I cant comment on the 10.

Never had an issue with the "jimping" on the 9 (they call it a thumb ramp), which is the same as it is on the 10. Although, to be honest, I hardly ever use/touch it on my 9. I'm either using it in a normal monkey fist type grip so the thumb isn't anywhere near it, or am choked up so my thumb is beyond it.

You're right though, you will likely be happy with both, so its not too huge of a decision to make :).

The 2 rocks almost anything, the 10 kicks ass and is easier to carry....that being said, add 10+2 and you get 12 - which would be my choice over either the 10 or 2. Then again, I like thimb ramps and bigger blades; I find my 12 is like the "Goldilocks" of blades: just right.
To answer your question, though, you can't go wrong with either. Both have their pros and cons; both are more than capable camping/backpacking knives.

Given the choice between the 10 and the 2, I'd definitely get a 4. Hahaha

Never have held a 10. The 2 was my first Becker. It's a total badass piece of steel, but might be too thick. It's my favorite for batoning for that reason. I don't use it much, I use my 4 and my 16 much more often.

I have three 2's because it's an awesome blade. But I've never bothered with a 10. If you can only get one, look at the 12.

Thanks all. For those who have both, What is the difference between the handle materials? Do you prefer one over the other?

Different handle materials?

The BK2 and BK10 have the same exact handle scales... the only difference is that the spine thickness on the BK2 makes the handles a little larger feeling.

Unless you mean if you should keep the grivory, or get the Micarta. If that's the question, then sadly you'll have another split vote methinks. The micarta is a bit warmer feeling, and more grippy. The stock scales are comfy to me though, and I have no desire to switch (especially not for that kind of money :P).

Good luck :).

I've never handled a 10. The moment I held a 2 though, I knew that it wasn't meant for me. It's a great blade and I can see why many people love it. I prefer more nimble blades and the 16 is my main camping knife.
The great thing about most beckers is that all the positives for one can probably apply to most of them. Can the 2 do 99% of the tasks you need it to? Absolutely. Can the 9? Yep. How about a 16? Sure.
I can probably carve a spoon with a 9. I know I can split wood with a 16.
You can get by with any of them, it's just a matter of preference. 10 or 2 will serve you well, I'm sure.

Thanks. I read a description that they were different materials on Amazon. Probably not the best reference.

I like the micarta, but same thing. Way to much money

I've been reading that too. Split opinions on both.

Thanks for all the input guys!

BK-2 is a little heavy on the belt but can do some serious work. It depends on how much work needs to be done in camp. Most hikers do fine with a small slipjoint knife.

I've got a camping trip coming up with a buddy who owns one Becker, the 2. By that time, I'll have about four (5, 15, 16, and possibly a 9). We'll see who ends up liking what for the woods.:D

I've had several of each and they both have their place. If I had to pick one, I'd take the 10 every single time. The "place" for the BK2 is when your brother in law needs to borrow a knife on a camping trip. Give him something he's unlikely to break. It's not like the BK10 is delicate.
