I'm getting a BK11 shortly. Given that if you could choose only one of these (BK2, BK7 or BK9) which one would *you* choose and why?

Depends on what you want to do with it. The BK2 is thick at 0.25" and heavy for its size. If I wanted to pry open a car door, it would be the BK2. The 7 and 9 are a tad thinner, but still built like tanks. If you are into chopping and batoning, the BK9 would be the puppy. The BK7 is more of an all around camp and utility type knife IMO. So it really depends on what you are into. I have all 3. Don't sweat it too much. Just get whatever floats your boat and you'll be happy with it. I guarantee you'll be happy when the mailman shows up.

I started with the Becker Necker like you. I then bought the BK2, then about a month later I bought the BK9.

But if I had to buy them over again, I would have bought the BK9 first. There's just something special about the 9 that I absolutely love.

Whatever one you choose to get next you wont be disappointed.

But in all reality you really should buy the BK 2 next then go from there.

Well put, powernoodle.

And there you have it, boys and girls. Personally, I'd probably go for the BK-2, but then again, I always say that.:D

"Depends on what you want to do with it." - I heard those words in my head as I posted this and intentionally chose not to include that info (to limiting). :D

Ok - pretend you have a BK11 and can *only* get one and only one of the three mentioned. I'm interested in which would float your boat under that (admittedly unrealistic, perhaps) stipulation.

Ok, fair enough. For boat floating, I dig the BK-9. Its easier to do small tasks with a big knife than big tasks with a small knife. But more to your point, I think I just dig the BK-9 the most. Then the BK-7, then the 2.

If I planned on carrying my bk-11 and one of th 3 knives mentioned I would go with the bk-9..the size difference between the 9 and the 11 would allow for each to maximize the specialty (the 11 for light work, and the 9 for the heavy stuff) if youwhere venturing into a one kn ife category that's where the bk2 and 7 fall in..as Jacs of all trades...that's my 2 cents for what its worth.

Well, I'm gonna choose the BK7...wait maybe the 2...I dunno. Maybe I'll take the 2, with the 7 as backup in my trunk. WHY MUST YOU MAKE ME CHOOSE???? :D

BK7 for size and all around versatility. My guess is that you are going to find that the BK11 will suit most of your needs just fine.

if saltwater boating, and gutting fish, get the BK77 :)'

soon to be rare, never to be made again, and well, stainless :>

I'm rarely (once every 5-10 years currently) around salt water - so that's not a consideration for me.

Buying them all and being done with it, while obviously the most attractive idea is not financially feasible at this time. Lol - I admit that response occurred to me as well. Powernoodle and I must be related or read the same books or something. :D

I guess I am of a different mind set then most here. I tend to shy away from using the bigger blades then the BK-2.... to many wrist injuries over the years doing stupid things on motorcycles and the like... anyways, for me, the BK-11/BK-2 combo works very nicely. And it depends a lot on what you do with your blades. I tend to not try and chop down trees with them or that type of thing... well at least not often.

You guys are outdoor woodsmen, or you sure put on that way. You guys hack down saplings for the fun of it. So I could see that the choices being like this:

ABSOLUTELY ONLY ONE BLADE: BK2 or BK7

ABSOLUTELY ONLY TWO BLADES: BK9 & BK11/14

Now would your choice be any different if you were more of a mild-mannered state park camper, or day hiker on public trails?

Same here. The BK9 paired with the BK11 can likely handle most chores you might face. The BK9 will be the best chopper (followed by the BK7) and is thinner than the BK2 so it's not proportionally heavier. You should still eventually buy a BK2 just 'cause it's so over-built that you can't help but smile when you hold it. And it's not just a pry bar--------will slice and dice too. But it's heavy for its length. You can always baton cut, rather than chop, if the wood's not too thick, but the BK9 is just a better tool for chopping. It's also got more blade sticking out the backside of wood you might split while batonning, and has enough blade for two-handed drawknife work if you want to try that.

I also agree. My first was the BK2, and then my second was a BK2 (gen 2)...

Then, I picked up the 7 and the Necker. the 2 is still my favorite.
