BK2 or ESEE 5

I think the biggest difference and deciding factor will be clear to you from holding both. They feel different, and since everyone's hands are different, so is their preference on the handles.

Personally, I really don't like the ESEE handles on the ESEE 5 and 6. To me, it's boxy and uncomfortable. My BK2 fits my hand PERFECTLY. Regarding steel and all the other stuff, those things are negligible differences by comparison. The steel is similar, the blade shape is similar, etc. The sheath on the ESEE is definitely better. The pommels serve different purposes. The handles are completely different.

Try and find some at a gun show or something, or like someone suggested earlier, buy one, and if you don't like it, sell it and get the other.

I've owned both. Gave my 20 yr old son the ESEE. had custom bocote handle scales and leather made for the BK2 and it is my go-to, hard use knife. I'd give the edge to the Becker.

More like $145.00

You are correct. Last place I saw them they were 200. I hadn't done much price comparison on it since I was already sold on the bk2.

So. For me it comes down to ergos and the ability to add the kydex and micarta later. I really don't mind the stock sheath. If I upgrade it will be some skystorm leather.

I had 2 ESEE-5's, I traded the first one which was the serrated version and I started missing it immediately. The next one was plain edge and I planned on keeping it but ended up trading it also. The BK-2 that is my first Becker is still here but even if I sold or traded it, It is inexspensive enough to easily afford a replacement, And it is a perfect canvas for modifications.
I like the black coating on the Becker better because it is a smooth finish while the ESEE has a thicker and rougher texture to the finish. I guess it all boils down to personal preference but the Becker will cost almost a hundred less. I did however like the provision in the micarta handle for a bow drill bearing block divot on the ESEE-5.

I love both companies products.Having said that,I prefer the BK2.I don't think you can find a better hard use knife for the money.

They are going to cost the same in the end. Kydex + Micarta isn't cheap. They are both tough chunks of 1095. The coating on the ESEE is better....try stripping them at the same time. Jimping is important to me for grip, bow drill divot and glass/skull crusher on the ESEE so another plus. The BK2 is lighter due to the hollowed out tang. Don't get me wrong I love both knives but the ESEE is a classier knife.... Out of the box. If u plan on getting a new sheath or Micarta get the ESEE 5 if u r cool with grivory get the bk2. Both will stand the test of time.

I'm going to be no help.
Handle both - buy the one that feels better in hand.
I will tell you one major difference betweenthe 2 -- and it's totally because of the higher grind on the BK2.
The BK2 works like a knife, doing bushcrafty things straight out of the box.
The ESEE5 with it's lower grind and steeper primary bevel has a learning curve. It will do all the same bushcrafty things, but takes practice to do them well/comfortably/easily.

That said, I own a thoroughly modded BK10 and an ESEE6. :D

This is discussed SOOOO much, as stated before your in becker turf,:) so it will be biased.
Get which ever one you are drawn too, they both are awesome.:D
