BK2 or wait for BK16?

Hey Guys!

I am new to this forum and have learned alot just from browsing thru categories. I already own a BK7, and am wanting a smaller version of it. I have read several reviews of the bk2, watched alot of dumb people messing up a perfectly good knife, but have seen just what kind of beast this thing is. I have held one, and while it is heavy, i think this thing would be able to do anything i asked of it. I have seen that the bk16 is a smaller, lighter, less bulky version. It also comes with an extra set of handles. I am just curious which you guys would get, and why.

Thanks!

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you are looking for something you can beat on and never worry about, the BK2 is the definite choice. If you are looking for a smaller knife to do detail work with that won't drop your pants when you wear it on your belt, the BK16 would be the better choice. Really it comes down to just how rough you plan on being on it. Both are excellent knives, but if you are pairing with a larger knife already, the 16 might be more to your liking, whereas the 2 is more of a big knife that you already have in your BK7.

I have both and love both, it really depends on what you want to do with it.

Edit: Derek was quicker ;) and sad it better!

Both.

along with the 9, and the 10 if you can get one, and the 14, and the 5, and the... Well, all of them... Except the 8.

No offense Phil.

Bk5

Don't mind me I recommend it to everyone. But could you be a little more specific? Do you want an atomic bomb proof knife that can do biahcraft or an excellent bushcrafter that could only withstand small missiles?

Since you already have a bigger knife in the 7, I'd got for a 16. It's a fantastic knife for the small work, but still has that "Becker heft".

+1

Your real question should be full flat ior saber grind

Then get a bk5 to replace your 7

I second going for the smaller blade if you already have the large one covered. The 16 is an excellent knife by all accounts.

Thank you guys for the suggestions. I am an avid hunter and camper, and go with my son on boy scout adventures alot during the summer. I probably wont be doing any kind of bush crafting. While i will probably have both at some point, I am wanting the knife to be able to clean fish and deer, make a spark on a firesteel, typical camping/hunting stuff. As i said earlier, i already own the 7, so it will be used for the more heavy duty stuff like chopping firewood and the like. I know the bk2 is a very good and sturdy knife, and can withstand high tolerances of pain. Will the bk16 do the same in a lighter weight, more nimble package?

I wouldn't look to the 16 for any kind of chopping if I were you, unless it's chopping off some pencil size twigs off of a larger branch or something like that. If you want it to chop go for the 2, still not a real "chopper" but it can be used to chop when called upon.

I meant that i was going to use the 7 to do my chopping and such. Sorry for the confusion.

ok clich, so what is the answer based upon what i am wanting to do with it?

Machax :D

Jk
Game cleaning and small camping chores, then the bk16. Although my primary hunting and fishing blade will be the bk15 but that is because I prefer upswept blades. Especially for game processing and field dressing. It reaches hard to reach areas better. But that's me since my oldest memories of field dressing were with a buck 119 and that tip is way upswept.

16 is definitely a more lightweight, nimble package. It really comes down so specifically to what you define as doing the 'same stuff' as the BK2. What would you use it for? Personally though, I don't know that I'd want to haul both a 7 AND a 2, you'd save yourself some weight by doing the 7 and the 16 for sure.

Sounds like you could use the BK15...it's the 5's little brother....

You have the 7, so you have your chopper/heavy duty batonner and your hack-a-way knife covered. Now, since the 2 is thicker, almost as long and twice as heavy, I would go with a tweener. Now, the question is do you want a mini 7, or a more bushcraft oriented 16? The 17 matches the 7 in blade geometry, the 16 is a larger 11/14, can't really call it a smaller 2 because is less than an inch shorter in blade length.

I say get the FPR 16, and when they finally come out get a regular production 17.

Go with the 16 it's awesome.

Nsvens89, how thick is the blade? Can you show a pic from the top? Also, it does look awesome! I have found them a couple of places, but everywhere is preorder and such. Mind if I ask where you got yours and how much? PM if you wouldnt mind. Also, how does the handle feel? I know they are made of zytel, but never handled that. Does it feel good and grippy or am i gonna have to do what i did with my 7 and use spray on truck bed liner on it?

Are you making a reference to my screwed up BK-2? Hmm Brward? But if you can get both get them, I love My 2, I will beat on it forever and never think twice about breaking it.
