Ok, since hunting season opening day is rapidly approaching Ive been getting gear together. And like every other year, ill be going on a 3 day trip into the woods to a cabin. I always have trouble deciding what blade/blades to bring since packing light is the name of the game. My bk2 is going, and usually the 11 for field dressing. But I was wondering if adding a swedge to the bk2, from the tip back about 2 inches will allow it to be better used for field dressing since its size makes it very cumbersome and a thinner point profile would prob make the task a bit easier. Just a thought and was wondering if anyone has every done such a thing and what it might look like and whether or not its even worth it. Not that an 11 is much extra cargo, but im always thinking of a one knife solution. one more knife is one more thing I gotta worry about, plus my pack, my gun, all the heavy clothing and dragging a deer. Again just a thought. If someone could photochop what one might look like in their free time id appreciate that too

I say do it, but then my reasons are I just want to see it happen. Don't recall anyone doing that since I have been here, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Or that it shouldn't happen! My curiosity is up, do it! You don't need photoshop, that's too much like a plan. We're men, men don't need plans, directions or clean clothes. Seriously though, can't wait to see if this happens.

My biggest fear is even grinds. Plus I put alot of work into the handles and if I screw up the 2 I can't just take em off and slap em on a new one. Im gonna have to hand in my man card and plan it out :D. Jk. About the man card not the plan, my wife keeps my man card in her purse anyways.

I think I could open up a new world of possibilities for the 2, or it could ruin my favorite blade. Does ethan hate me yet for destroying his creations? One of these days im gonna have to leave a Becker stock, and I think that will be the bk5.

From what I remember, Ethan seemed pretty excited about all the different things we do to his knives. Each of us has a tendency to truly make it our own.

I'd say go for it too. I put a swedge on an 11 and it wasnt very difficult.

Do you have a belt sander?

Yeh that's what I plan to use. Might take a long time with such thick steel

clich, does your belt sander have a soft contact wheel or hard? if you have a soft contact wheel i can tell you how to do it really easy.

It's really not that hard to do. Just take your time. Take off a little at a time. Question tho... wouldn't the 11 be better suited for feild dressing just because of it's smaller size? Regardless I still would like to see it.

The 11 with the Loveless style drop point looks ideal for field dressing deer sized game. If you split the pelvis the 2 should be able to baton through it no problem. I think you're good to go as is.

If you decide to regrind the 2 post pics and a after action report, please.

Hard I believe.

Yeh the 11 is great and I've used one before. I just always am looking at ways to come as close as I can to the perfect knife. Ya know what that can do it all if need be, and the 2 is pretty damn close but it can't field dress without making a mess of things. So im just thinking of ways to improve the functions of my blades and I think a small swedge, just enough to thin out the point, would increase its ability to do smaller work done by the point. There are alot of better choices, I just want to make it better. If I could make my own blade, it would be similar to the bk2 with a thinner point profile, index finger jumping, and a forward swell handle

Yeh the 11 is great. Im just thinking of improving the 2 to do the same things well. One knife is my goal

Wow now that is gorgeous. Thank you so much. Holy crap, im gonna do it now. Gonna practice on another blade first but Yeh that's gonna be done

Not a problem man, glad you liked the 'chop. I figure that since I'm still a becker noob, that I could at least help out with the chopping :).

Let us know how it turns out, and we'll see how close the 'chop was.

P.S. I'm now super close to getting my BH number :).

Good to hear. Your number opens alot of doors :D.

Should I try the two different angles like on the 9, or should I try just one angle? Those of you guys that follow bill akers stuff, he does one straight rounded grind on his swedges up to the highest point on the clip. Prob wont be as nice as his masterpieces but ill try

Well, I'm not familiar with those other knives, but when I 'chopped the photo of your knives, I just used the swedge from the 9 and put it right on the 2. If you like that look, why not do it like that, and make it look like a mini calimus 9 (meaning, thicker shorter 9).

Good luck man.

ask and ye shall receive. a bk2 with a swedge. I convexed the blade first, then when the swedge was done, it didnt look right with the smooth lines on the rest of the blade, so i convexed the swedge as well, then gun blue. enjoy

first up is practice on a custom.
