Today I decided to put a tobasco patina on my Camillus BK2.
I've tried it before on my BK11 which resulted in an interesting patina.
I've had this BK2 in a digicam SpecOps sheath and in all honesty I've just never been crazy about digicam. Especially here in the forests of the Pacific Northwest.
So I decided to dye it black.
These pics were taken mid-process and I'll post pics of the finished project when I'm done.
Here's the Camillus BK2 soaking in the tobasco. I stood it upright so that the tobasco will run down and create a root like pattern. Or maybe like veins. We'll see.

Here's a pic of the sheath soaking in a bottle of black Rit dye and a cup of vinegar. I boiled the dye mixture and put it in this foil lined pan because the sheath ended up being too big for the pot that I used to heat the dye. I had to keep turning the sheath over every 20 min or so because I didn't use enough dye.
Here's a "before" pic of the sheath:

I pulled the sheath out after an hour soak time. I'll let it dry and then rinse it with cold water.

Here's the BK2 after sitting for about 45 min. You can see some of the areas darkening. I'll let it sit for awhile longer and see what happens.

Here it is at 1hr. 15min. Starting to darken up quite nicely:

And here it is after about 2 hrs. I think I'll call it good. Now I'll rinse it in warm soapy water.

And here's the finished patina. I like the way it turned out. Very unique.
I'll be sure to post pics of the sheath once it's finished.

After rinsing the sheath over and over and over again, I just decided to throw it in the washing machine. Cold water, no soap. Took it out and let it dry. Turned out good. There is still a faint digicam pattern, but overall I'm very happy with it.
