BK2 VS ESEE5...I can't believe how similar they are!

As the title states, I'm amazed at the similarities of these two. I recently picked up the ESEE5 for a dang good price, and it's almost taken over my "go to spot". The only problem I'm having with it right now is that pointed pommel. I typically place the knives(s) in my pack to reduce the amount of catching on trees or the likes, this would be fine but placing the ESEE5 in my usual spot has caused it to puncture my food. It's little I know, but something I'm having troubles with. I'll probably stick to the BK2, just for the fact that I am accustomed to it. Sorry for the lack of Becker talking, but here's a photo the the two side by side. Thanks!

There's alot of crossover in the Becker/Esee lineup. Functionally speaking (and to some extent aesthetically) the E-4 and the BK-16 are very similar as well.

Little known fun fact, Most of my BK-2 sheaths will make a happy home for the Esee-5 as well.

Gents why is that the Esee's are way expensive compared to the Becker's ? I have handled the BK2, not the Esee 5 but from what I hear it's an outstanding blade...

The most prominent reasons in price difference would probably be the difference in materials: micarta vs. grivory for the scales, kydex vs. FRN for the sheath, etc. There are other reasons but those are the important ones IMO. Both are great knives for what they are.

I love both of those knives, but I found the ESEE5 edge a little to thick for my tastes. Don't get me wrong, I love my 5 and what a helluva knife.

Apparently this is important. I saw a video by a Japanese hunter, where he shows how FRN actually dulls the knife's edge as you take it in and out of the sheath, while running the edge of the knife intentionally against the Kydex sheath had no adverse effects. I didn't know this.

Most of the Esee sheaths are pretty nice. Well except for the Candiru. My fav of the lineup is the e4 though it won't be replacing my 16 at any time.

Hey sky make a pocket sheath for the candiru with the micarta scales?

So has soon has I have the one i ordered from you for my 11 i start drolling in it and buy it...

(i mean it)...

Well i don't like flat scales exept on small knifes so thats why bk2>esee5 for me.

That's actually the main reason I prefer my BK2 to the ESEE 5... I just couldn't pack the 5 correctly, and the pointed pommel would always end up wearing down/puncturing something. It looks awesome and sounds great in theory, but it ended up being the reason I sold it off.

I bet that was Virtuovice. The problem, is that the "frn" is actually glass reinforced nylon. The glass wears down the edge. Becker has already made improvements (less glass) in their sheaths, which should diminish the issue, but there are always going to be older sheaths out there. Apparently if you wack the sheath on something solid, you can hear a difference between the old ones and new...one has more of a crack/sharp sound vs a duller thud.

That should be no problem though it will be a smaller version of the 11. Send me a message when you are ready for one and I will order handles in for one of my Candiru.

30 seconds on a belt sander w/120 or 240 grit belt and there would be no more point on that pommel.

yup.
But you'll go through a LOT of abrasive trying to raise the grind on that wedge.
I find the 5 to be a brick in the hand and too thickly ground.
But the pointy pommel is easily fixed.

Kabar makes more knives than ESEE, I bet. differences in production volume and techniques produce difference prices. Becker handles are molded in large quantities. Those micarta ones are more costly to produce, like the Kabar version.

If you are a complete and total moron and break your knife in an egregiously stupid way, Kabar may or may not politely tell you to go pound sand.
The folks at ESEE will trade you a new knife for the pieces, no matter what.

I have 7 ESEE's and 1 BK2 ~~ reckon which I like the best..? The ESEE-3 is my "FAV" out of them all and the 3 and 5 go with me camping or hunting.! You don't even know you have them with you all day but the BK2 will wear you out by the end of the day ~~ so it is my short trip knife to go at times.*

On the other hand....the ergos on the ESEEs are not very good. Handles are just a couple thin slabs of micarta slapped on the tang. The Becker feels much better in the hand.
