BK21 Video Review

Great knife, great video.

Here's the problem: Why would anyone publicly disclose that one knife can take the place of three? I'm more of the preference of wanting three knives instead of one - certainly not the other way around!

You heard me wrong. I said that it performed like those three knives at the same time, and that having a one-tool option is priceless. Not that I endorse one knife over three. Lol. Matter of fact, I sold a bk16 to a gentleman, while at SMKW, and telling him that the 16 paired with the 21 is all I would need in the wilderness. I'm a beckerhead, man... I'd never say to just have one Becker. [emoji106]

Great video and review. Looks like you covered everything. You prolly just cost me money since I wasn't initially interested. But yeah now I gotta have it!

That's about the best Becker review I've seen on YouTube. Bites like a machete, hits like an axe, carves like a mora, and it looks like it'll fight like a Greek sword...
Methinks they're gonna have a booger of a time keeping them in stock.

Would you recommend, (ie, would you personally) go with a hard (thermoplastic) sheath? As it is, it does look a bit awkward to be brush busting with the handle/pommel knocking you in the ribs...
And along those lines, do you think that the stitching on the belt loop would/will hold up as well as a stock bk4 or bk9 sheath?

I only ask, because it looks very much like the (essentially blade protector) sheath from the OCK kukri or the CS machete, which, while aren't horrible (a deal better than duct tape and cardboard), leave a lot to be desired in the realm of durability and ease of drawing/re sheathing.
Not poking at anyone, just curious. 😏

Thanks for the support, JT! Now... I would definitely add a dangler to the stock sheath. Period. As for a rigid sheath platform... it still needs a dangler, for sure, AND it needs to be comfortable when the knife is unsheathed. I think a rigid sheath would be an improvement for the ease of sheathing/unsheathing, but for some... we could be splitting hairs, here. So, if you're accustomed to rigid platforms you'd most likely need one for this knife. I'm happy enough with the stock sheath (dangler added), but I'm getting an itch for a rigid. 710's look really nice, and I'm sure Dex will be coming up with something nice, too. Hope this helped.

Quite helpful.
Fair enough brother.
Good response!!

I suppose it's just a matter of time before some detailed comparisons start showing up as between the BK-21 and the venerable BK-4, perhaps even among the faithful here.

I don't have any plans of comparing the two. It would give a good representation of scale, though. Other than scale there's no real point. They're both entirely, too different. Both excellent designs.

The RBK looks like the knife I was envisioning when the Machax came out. Like many people I thought the 4 was smaller than I expected it to be. That said I've come to love the 'chax in part for being really compact for such a capable knife. I regard it as a "really big small knife" whereas the RBK looks to be more like a big knife.

Oh, and better for dispatching walkers, too....

Both entirely different but with similar functionality objectives. I could almost go so far as to say two different ways of getting to the same place in some respects.

That sounds like every large knife ever made.

Uh-huh,
When I look at the machax out of the hand, it looks like it'd be a match for any non-trad kukri.
In hand, it looks exactly as you say, kind of a bolo-ish hybrid.
To me a similar comparison could be made in the Kabar line between the combat kukri, and the freakishly big kukri machete. Similar, yet quite different.

Actually, I must respectfully disagree. I ask that you consider this:

The BK-4 is a small Big Knife and a big Small Knife. What I mean by that is that is is Big Knife capable in a lighter weight, small size package. To use the cliche' - it punches above its weight. OTOH, while a sizable and, as previously mention - capable knife, it can make feather sticks, tent pegs and do things that one might reach for a Tweener to accomplish. IMHO, the BK-4 is more multi-viscosity (if you will) than most might think - certainly more than i thought before I got one.

On to the BK-21. The BRK also punches above its weight, especially considering its reasonably light weight. It also is balanced and handles such that it can perform tasks belied by its size. The BK-21 is no bull in a china shop for up close work notwithstanding its capabilities for heavier work.

I said all of that to say this: both knives span a spectrum of tasks that would make other knives cough, wheeze, trip over their own hooves or simply fail. Both knives are "field" knives for those whose fields are the venues of camping, survival, backpacking and the like. many large knives would like to think that they are as capable and versatile as the Becker 4 and 21 but the truth is that the sector is thin and, to be blunt, it's lonely at the top. Kudos to the designs of the BK 4 and 21.

So, you see, from my perspective, they are different from every large knife ever made and hence my complimentary comment.

Can't quite make out your mod there CM_Rick..... care to elaborate on what you did? Video might be cool or even just some text to 'splain it.

Thanks, guys. This video was fun to make. I'm glad you all enjoy my style of review. Call me crazy, but I think viewers want to see the knife performing with commentary on its PERFORMANCE rather than "first impressions" and specs.

I couldn't agree more!
I can't stand unboxing vids or first impression vids.
I want to see the knife in action and to hear honest thoughts and opinion.
Nice vid Rick. Keep up the good work!

'This knife would probably be a good throwing knife. No way!'

Love it.

Yes! I was waiting in suspense to see you hurl it, but then I chuckled.

I really like the style of your videos and you always seem comfortable speaking. Not really any nonsense in your videos. You do a good job really informing the audience. Keep up the good work!
