I started this project so I would be able to use the spine of my knife to scrape my firesteel.
I figured I would grind away a small amount of material in front of the handles.
Then I realized after the grinding was complete that this is where I place my thumb when I bare down on the blade. So I just ground away another area ahead of my smoothed out thumb divet.

UGLY,UGLY,UGLY. Why did I do that?

So I just decided to use it and hey who cares its a user anyway.
The more I used it the more it bothered me.
Back to the grinder, Its not like I can make it worse.
Right.

I like the way it turned out.
Bk14 for comparison.

Oh man, that is awesome! I might have to straight up copy that!

Nice mod! How does it work on a firesteel?

Jeremy

Looks a bit Opinel-like with less belly. I like Opinels a lot, hence, I dig the looks of that 24. Nicely done...

Exactly how I would have fixed, it, and you ended up with a FANTASTIC profile!

I like it. No, I REALLY like it. Off to the grinder......
Good luck.

Copy away. It works great on the firesteel.

Thanks for the kind words. I've never used a Opinel.

Thanks, I thought you might like it.

See, it's not a mistake, it's a "design opportunity"....it looks great, kinda like an XL Izula.
I love my Izula.

Came out looking great!
Thanks.

Now just need to add a swedge and it would be perfect!

Looks good though!
Perfect nah, but better maybe.

Hey now! its a pointier looking 24 :D I do like that profile as well  kinda reminds me a little bit of the 5 / 15 a tiny bit. Time to add the swedge!

I've been debating doing this exact same thing since I got my 14 about a year ago.
I never liked the hump on the back of the blade. I've just been unsure how it would turn
out. Thanks for posting this. Now I'm convinced, and I just got a bench grinder.lol. :D

I like it a lot! I looks great! Did you have to be sure to go really slow, to not mess with the heat treat? Or dunk it in water occasionally? Or is it far enough from the edge or cool enough a process to not effect heat treat?

I'm not positive about this, but I believe that D2 has to get significantly hotter than 1095/1095cv in order to ruin the hea treatment. I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.

If that's correct, D2 is harder to grind but the risk of ruining the temper is lower. 1095 would be easier to grind but there's a higher chance of ruining the blade if you let it get too hot. The possibility is there with both metals I'm sure. If I were doing this I would keep it cool regardless.
