Hey beckerheads, I received my bk 24 in the mail and love it. I plan on modifying it in small ways to make it a bit nicer and make it look clean. here is what i had in mind: clean up the edge, polish the blade, buy it a nice leather pocket sheath, stipple the factory black grips or dye the orange ones crimson and stipple, and jimp the entire handle section. in my opinion the bk14/24 is a bit slippery, hence all the traction mods. The jimping will be a feat indeed as I will be doing it with just a diamond file. I will post my results as I complete them. my question to you guys and gals is who would you recommend to make a leather sheath for it? Also, who makes a very small triangular diamond file? i cant seem to find one that looks to be of good quality. Here are the pics.

nice, looking forward to seeing the mods.. for a sheath.. Psyop, Skystorm, 710... I know I am forgetting some.

710 is the only guy I buy sheaths from for a while now. Always comes with cool stickers, shirts and extras......

As for grip, I've lost my soul to inner tube sleeves over zytel. For me, the zytel is the perfect size for a sleeve.

Of course I have a few that sport micarta........

Either way, I can't wait to see what lies ahead.

I'm partial to Psyop's sheaths.

You could stipple and jimp that bad boy, or just make/get some Micarta and shape to fit. Good luck cutting the D2. :)
Love the 24. I'd pocket-carry it if I could.

I want to see your Crimson scales!

I really like my TKC scales. The g10 had a great tactile feeling as well as a fuller grip because of the added length.

I tried cutting a grove with a hack saw blade and a file. It didn't even scratch it. I squared off the spine and did a little work on the rest of the handle squaring it off too. My only option to get some jimping on this thing is probably to use a diamond file... or two. I definitely like those tkc scales. I would definitely make some g10 scales on my own but living in barracks limits my dremel usage. The skystorm pocket sheath looks close to what I want but isn't perfect. I might have to draw up a custom order from one of these guys. thanks for the help guys. I'll keep you posted.

Yeah, a hacksaw blade ain't gonna cut it.........

The best way I have found to jimp out, is a good file. Triangular and somewhat coarse.

On that D2 though............damn, thats gonna be a doozy.

Hey Volta....

If you can use a round diamond file...... V notches tend to build stress risers and crack propagation can follow.....probably not a problem but, Avoiding problems is always good.....A shame the Dremel option is off the table, they save a lot of elbow grease, they do, they do.....Looking pretty .......

That looks great! Now I'm thinkin' about getting one myself...AARRGGHHH!! This forum is like a money vacuum sometimes! Like I don't have enough knives already!

The 24 is a great knife. If you want a leather pocket sheath I can pretty much do one any way you like, and it wont cost more than the knife :)

Thanks for the advice on that crack propagation issue mr. becker. I posted in another forum asking if a spyderco sharpmaker stone would work to make the small groves. here is the thread if anyone is interested. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-can-someone-with-a-sharp-maker-do-me-a-favor Based on the responses i bought some triangular stones from congress tools, they are not as sharp as a needle file and will likely result in a round bottom groove. I will do some tests to confirm this before I grind on this 24. I definitely don't want to end up cracking this baby. I do have high hopes though.

granitestateofmind- get one your wallet will forgive you

psyop, I like that mag holster. stand by for PM.

I polished the blade a bit and finished squaring off the spine all the way around. Its starting to turn into a real looker.

Not my wallet I'm worried about. I've got the rest of the (Becker) family to take care of, I don't need another mouth to feed....;)

Your 24 is lookin great - how were you able to square the spine and do such a nice polish job on such hard steel?

Wondering the same thing, it looks great! I gave up on polishing a 14 after a few days of sanding on it by hand...

Thanks for the compliments guys. I used about one full sized sheet of 400 grit sand paper wet and about 2 sheets of 600 grit and then proceeded to use bark river black compound and some green silicon carbide compound from a company I cannot remember the name of. The black compound is about 800 grit and the green I would say is like 4000. I actually made an awesome discovery that rubbing compound onto paper makes an excellent abrasive tool. It works just like sand paper (obviously) only its much cheaper and a little less durable. It is excellent for the flat surfaces of a knife.
