bk24 show off, questions, and planned mods.

Made a kydex sheath for my BK-24. As you can see, I had some help making it...:D

Looks great!! I have made kydex sheaths in the past but could never figure out how to get the flared lip on the top. How do you/what do you do to get it like that? Is that another step after the sheath is initially formed? Thanks

After I form the sheath, I just take a hair dryer and heat up the kydex where I want to make the lip and, while wearing gloves, I just take my thumb and form it. If I don't like how it turned out, I just re-heat the area with the hair dryer and try again until I'm happy with the results. Hope this helps.

Awesome pair there man and nice sheath setup. I also enjoy your hard working foreman... seems like a great guy :)

I got my stones in the mail and i have made a few grooves in the spine. It looks like i'll get the fine jimping i was after! i'll post some pictures of it tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice on that crack propagation issue mr. becker. I posted in another forum asking if a spyderco sharpmaker stone would work to make the small groves. here is the thread if anyone is interested. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-can-someone-with-a-sharp-maker-do-me-a-favor Based on the responses i bought some triangular stones from congress tools, they are not as sharp as a needle file and will likely result in a round bottom groove. I will do some tests to confirm this before I grind on this 24. I definitely don't want to end up cracking this baby. I do have high hopes though.

granitestateofmind- get one your wallet will forgive you

psyop, I like that mag holster. stand by for PM.

I polished the blade a bit and finished squaring off the spine all the way around. Its starting to turn into a real looker.

That is some beautiful polishing. One question, I am of the impression the logos on the BK24 are not really physically etched, but are photo etched, with no tactile feel of any impression, unlike a stamping, roll mark, or other method of metal etching/engraving. Was there a concern for polishing off the logos; did you only polish the blade and spine and avoided the logos?

Looking good. I ended up getting an Izula 2 about a month ago because it seems to be a more compact package than the Beckers...now that I have it I think the blade is just too small and I wish I would have just gotten the 11/14/24.

Nothing fancy here....crappy cell phone pic with my 24 sporting TKC scales...

Psyop does some great leather work. I just got this one from him a couple of weeks ago and it's been in my front pocket everyday since then.

It has the same demensions as the factory sheath but a little thicker. Great retention and really comfortable!

The handles are mesquite burl and are about the same size/thickness as the zytel scales from Kabar. This is by far my favorite edc EVER!

One more shot from earlier this week.:D

The BK24 is, without a doubt, one of my favorite knives. Mine might not be the first Becker at 14,000 feet, but I like to think it's one of the first BK24's:

(I tried to do some Bear Grylls poses up there, but they didn't turn out so well, so I'm posting this to save myself the embarrassment)

Traction is no problem with Micarta:

Alnamvet68- I did avoid the logo on purpose as I like the logo. I'm not sure what kind of etch they used but you are right in thinking that it isn't very deep.

update- Sorry for the delay guys. I got orders to Ft Richardson Alaska. Heck of a trip driving from NC to Texas and up to Alaska! I did add the jimping and it isn't as perfect as i wanted it to be but it looks decent and is very functional. As i predicted, the stones rounded off as I used them which resulted in sharp, U shaped slots. I like it a lot. I'll post pics as soon as I can dig the sucker out of my jeep. I acquired some g10 material so i might just go ahead and make scales for this little sucker myself. I also got a bk-16 so i'll also do a family portrait with all my beckers: a 7, 14, 24, and a 16! Thanks for being so patient.

Dang man, From North Carolina to Alaska in December! Bet that's a shock to the system!
Love the polish you put on the 24. I remember how boring down time in the barracks can be. Nice to have something to mess with, like a good knife or three.
