BK3 goes on a hike

Great review man, exactly what I was looking for, a bk-3 in use.
As mentioned before I like it for digging/root chopping. My stepfather just retired and bought himself a fancy metal detector.......I just might give it to him if he likes it after handling.
I found the notch is really good for small rubbery roots in holes(posts when you can't swing, the chisel tip is good for shearing in those tight spaces as well. I have torqued and levered out some good rocks that I could not bring myself to do with most knives.

I bet there would have been a lot of quartermasters in WW2 that would have appreciated beckers functional sharpened prybar opening crates etc.

OP Glad to see that the BK3 worked for you on that trip. I love seeing pictures of a blade getting used. :D

Gentlemen the BK3 does not have a set belt cutter, that is a Nail and Door Hinge pin puller. The BK3 has been around a long time with the nail/pin puller. You'd think that if it did weaken the too enough to worry about, Ethen and Kabar would have left it out when they released it a few years ago. I for one think that it's a neat idea and it would be even cooler if Kabar had two versions, one with and one with out.

TY, glad yall enjoyed it.

The squared tip on the BK3 is an odd thing. Didn't realize how handy it can be until I really got outside with it. Great for prying, using as a chisel, cutting/scraping in hard to reach areas. Definetly not a traditional looking/functioning tool.

I'm really glad to see a BK-3 get its mitts dirty! I firmly believe that any of the knives can do darn near anything you could possibly need with a little linear thinking, and your review seems to agree.

A thought just occurred to me about the nail/hinge tool; It seems that it'd make a crackerjack pot lifter. A while back, someone here, I think it was Maethor filed a potlifting notch in a bk-2 seems like if a potlifter is a priority, BK-3 has one built in.

this was the only pic of it I could find. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...y-Winner-s-announced!?p=10424776#post10424776

Only once have I been in the woods and kicked myself for not having a potlifter, but it goes to show, there's lots of functionality in any design if you know how to look for it.
