Bk4 and Bk17 Good Bushcraft Combo?

I think i will go with a 4 as my main blade, 16 for the light work and possibly if I have enough money a 14 for my edc to replace my Spyderco Byrd Robin 2.

Thanks Warrior. That's what I tried to do - I copied the URL for the post number but it didn't work for me. What did I do wrong?

I didnt say it doesnt baton, but I should have said "For me" on the comment. I found that for me, I prefer the angle of the handle, and the straight blade on the 9 for batoning, over the 4. Your milage may vary.

I know you didn't but I didn't want him to get the impression that the 4 was difficult to baton because it isn't. And "for me" is pretty well always implied. It was not a shot at you, just defending my favourite knife of all time. :D

And Chameleonbear, like you I wouldn't place the 3 out of the running. It really is quite a versatile blade.

Just click on the post number, and it will generate a new url. Copy and paste the new url. About it really.

The 14 is too small for my hand. I'd definitely go with a tweener, and a folder for EDC. The 2 is a great beast, but I think the 2 might be closer in utility to the 4 than the 16/17.

i like the BK4 and BK15 options

i don't PERSONALLY like the BK17 as much, i have no real use for that kind of tip

the BK16 is a perfect knife though...

but i'd probably put a keen edge on the BK15, and it would be great for all manner of camp chores, cleaning, cutting foods, etc

it's bushcraft... not AXE craft.

get a hatchet or small forest axe if you're going to chop stuff. Nessmuk did :D

I've never owned ether of these knives.

The 4 is very cool and fun blade, and the 17 looks very bada**, but the 16 and 9 with outperform both by a noticeable amount. If you're lookin' for a extremely practical pair, the 9 & 16 will serve you best. You certainly won't be disappointed by the 4 and 17 though......

kinda sir, please tell me how a BK16 out performs a BK17? :D

for bushcraft tasks, including MAKING things, the BK4 is probably my favorite. draw knife. good at batoning (esp the OLDER ones which are thicker). my first Becker long these decades ago. will be my last too :D

if you needed ONE big bad mother of a knife, for all tasks, the BK9 is fine, but for real adventure, i'd probably suggest the BK3. that's a TOOL for extremes.
