bk4 machax azwelke/esee pack rig

Cool vid clich. I think the strap would have worked better if it were a bit longer, past the snap, to have something more to hold onto.
Its such a heavy duty snap, its almost unnecessary. Its got such a large lip on it. I mean it does its job, but too well.

interesting. Is the strap difficult to open because u cant get ahold of it or is the snap buckle just overly tight? I would think leaving the strap a lil ''tab'' to grab hold of would work better, an inch or so longer then it is (past the snap part)

the lip of the piece that goes inside is too big and heavy duty, couple that with not much lip on the outside and not a strong enough material in the rubber for leverage, and you got no chance of beating it

I hear ya. Perhaps it will loosen up a bit after use. You gonna take it off?

KA-BAR makes the same mistake.. not enough strap extending past the snap to grab onto.

Qeth sent me some pictures of the Mashed Cat sheaths he has for his army of choppers, and I think Eric figured out two pretty good approaches.

im seriously considering it. I think a band of some kind in its place, something that can stretch so it can be unsheathed, but is still tight enough should the kydex retention break. im gonna play with it and hopefully i can get the design to work as is, because it had to have worked for him otherwise he wouldnt have started selling em.

Too bad you can't replace the mail snap end with a Sam Browne button. That'd probably fix everything.

that would be awesome i think. The just a slit in the rubber and it will have enough strength that a loose knife wont fall out, but easy enough to remove. good thinking. maybe i can finagle it somehow

Clich is that a pull the dot snap he is using? That would make it incredibly difficult to undo if it was and is not aligned properly. I was going to have him make one for me but planned on removing the plastic strap and replacing it with a leather one.

Thanks for the tip on the bleach, I will see if I can destroy another BK4 this week.

That's a really nice setup, and I gotta say, I love the sheaths I've seen from Azwelke, and if I remember correctly, you don't have to tear/cut it off, you can just take a screw out, at least that's what I remember from Bladite's review of this same sheath.

Off Topic: Does anyone have a 5.11 MOAB 10 they can tell me about? I looked at it on their website, but I want to know if I can A) mount more than one full size (2, 10) or large size (7, 9, 4, 6[when it comes out], 1[when it comes out], 12[I think the 12 is 7" long, right?]) and B) if there is enough room after mounting two or more of the listed knives for a tweener and a water bottle sleeve? I'm thinking of a good bug-out-bag at camp (thinking of a camp more like Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico with a real no-mans land for back country camping).

Clich,
Thank you for the review.
The strap is a "pull the dot" strap. It loosens a lot with use, I don't know why they set them so tight from the factory, but it will loosen.

I am glad you made the point cause usually it needs help with a tool, but will break in within a weekend if you play with it a lot :)

Thanks again,
Al

the strap is not goo. Good idea, bad snap. Its impossible to get off with my finger. I did it the first couple times ok, it was still hard but doable, but now it wont come off at all. The retention is good enough without it, but maybe a shock cord wrap just in case and ill cut the damn strap off

one can always REMOVE the strap. easy peasy, but some people need the solid lockup and rock solid retention. so, there you go :)

looks righteous! I'd wear on the belt strong side since this looks like a tool to be accessed all the time :) Figured that snap would break in over time - like working a folder a thousand times the minute it's out of the box. please mr. postman, hurry up, me wants my machax too.
