BK4 or BK5 Help me decide

due to shape, the 4 is easier to use as a draw knife.
once you dial in the sweet spot, it chops somewhat better than the 9 - but only somewhat.

Thanks for replying to my query.

Having the 9 but not the 4, I suspected exactly what you said but wanted to hear it from the voice of experience. Suspicions confirmed, it would appear that other than draw cutting/slicing and perhaps some limb lopping or certain chopping functions the mighty and favored 9 would carry the day in the absence of a 4. This logic ignores compelling facts such as: The BK-4 Machax looks COOL; is COOL - BAD ASS actually and was the first knife Ethan designed that went into production. It is also being discontinued and available at very attractive prices. These overwhelming and superseding factors caused me to pull the trigger on a couple - a user and a keeper.

Someone once said that, in evaluating knives, one thing to consider is that if a knife can't make a PB&J sandwich - it ain't worth a darn. That simple test actually makes some sense. The BK-4 certainly would qualify.

that works - and no, I didn't consider your question a challenge at all -- knives, like shoes, are very personal choices -- and if it doesn't fit right, it's not going to get any use.
I try to avoid saying things like "this is the absolute best" and instead aim for "this is what works for me".
good to hear you've got a pair on the way -- looking forward to seeing pics of it in use and hearing your thoughts.
the only suggestion I have for you is don't let thePointyEnd play with it. :D

Get the #5 first and then hurry and get the #15 before they are gone.! You can't lose as they are both good Knives.!***

I would dual purpose your looking for a game and food prep knife and give yourself a utility as well by purchasing a 15. They're quite inexpensive right now seeing as how they're only around 45 shipped on Amazon. Then I'd just use my 9 for clearing trail instead and enjoy THE BEST comfort for a mid sized knife around. I bought Becker knives over the upper echelons of the knife world because the are the snuggest and best fit knives on the market. Plus they're built to do WORK. (No offense to the safe queens...)

I didn't mean to derail the thread about your choice between the 4 & 5 but I feel that you will eventually buy a 15 right after that since your getting the disco's and find it to be an amazing knife... I'd actually wait until the RBK comes out like a wildfire and use THAT soon to be beast for trail clearing. :) let's not make this thread about the RBK now bc I'd have successfully derailed the thread completely! Hahahah!
