BK5 Magnum Camp

Anybody know where one might be able to pick up one of those critters? Cheers

well, i see fair but not amazing number of Beckers at various places like pawn shops (some with online presence). sometimes at knife shows. sometimes at yard sales or out of the way clearance things at some out of the way shop closing or something... but not so much lately.

when i do see them, especially in person, they are often used. sometimes hard. the asking prices are usually MSRP (or better). sometimes you can haggle. i feel bad about not buying a nice used tactul that would've gotten more use at my hands, but $150? er, no.

these days though, if you see a magnum camp, or brute, and it's under $200, buy it. you wont' see many more.

not long ago on ePray, someone sold a magnum for $80. that was a steal. won't see that again. they aren't too common to see being sold. brutes are much more common, for some reason. patrol machetes? forget it. just not for sale - rheinhardt combat khurkis are more common.

as for the machax, we love them, but you'll see more of those for sale than magnums and brutes combined, usually. good for me i guess?

a few years ago now, i chanced to goto a mall with a knife store going out of business. they had one campanion for sale for $35... when i expressed interest, they said they had two more out back. i asked if they had any other becker models, and said that was the only thing they carried in that line. well, me and my friend made short work of that. my first camillus becker :)

so. get a listing for EVERY knife shop in your area, hardware store, outdoor supplier, country store, fishing supply venue, pawn shop and their ilk, as well as flea markets, and so forth, and hit them all :) you might get lucky.

me? i'm hoping to find a crate of vintage beckers just waiting for me in the dollar a pound section of some country store :) one that doesn't have internet ;)

I agree with you Bladite... I picked up my last few BK's for less than $100 apiece(BK1,BK6,BK9, all Camillus and BK4 inbound now) if you just search they can be found asking a few questions ,Plus I am not looking for NIB BK's ,I dont mind used BK's at all .

Man, what a great find! I do wish Kabar would bring this one back for another run.

Holy resurected thread!

I am in the exact same delima as the OP. I can't decide whether to go beat my first Becker to death or not. Lots of good insight here. Still undecided though.

The big deciding factor is that I got such a great deal for my BK-5, $35 out the door at a pawn shop. The sheath is broken, but maybe repairable. It apparently has taken way more abuse than the knife, which shows virtually no wear at all.

The price I paid makes me think...wow what a profit percentage I could turn! But then I think, man if I SOMEHOW break this great knife I'm out virtually nothing.

Anyway, love the Becker knives. They are my main reason for joining this forum!

I couldn't agree more!;). Except I can't post pictures in this format from my Blackberry.

I'm thinkin, I may just lay into it. Then when it gets a little worn, give it a concave grind and strip the finish. I'll keep the grivory and make it my camp knife...hmm. Imagine that. Haha. I think it'd be perfect that way for slicing, chopping and cooking. By then, maybe I will have scored my perfect hip knife...a BK-10 with dark green micartas and a brown leather custom sheath.
