BK5 or Headphones?

Get the 5. Then you can take whatever headphones you want!

Just a disclaimer for the lawyers: I am not advocating the use of a knife to rob persons of their headphones, nor am I advocating violence of any sort. This is a joke, and should be read as such. A JOKE, PEOPLE!

Hi, if you want some great audiophile heaadphones, I suggest getting Beyerdynamic DT990s. Theyre awesome! You'll need a good amplifier to run those though.
Haha, maybe someday. But at three times the price of the headphones I am currently considering, not at the moment. Just as a curiosity, would a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium do the DT990s justice? I know it's no analogue vacuum tube amp, but would my sound card do it?

Good question actually. I have many hobbies, so splitting my tiny amounts of funding between them can be hard at times :(.

Check out the list of headphones in this link. These guys know what they're talking about. While I know you already have a pair of headphones picked out, you might find something else you like there as well.

For me, its mostly about which one I will use more frequently, and how important it is to me to have it. Meaning, if I don't already have a pair of headphones, then the value I get by buying a pair is huge. But if I already have like 5 pairs, then its less important.

Good luck making your decision :).

Someone who gets the reason this is a question. Knives aren't my only hobby (when it does come to knives though, Beckers are undoubtedly my favorite), and I just want some more awesome reasons to do either.
I like the BK5 a lot, but since my ancient but awesome Pioneer Se-305's are going out, I might need some new headphones. I listen to a ton of music, and in .FLAC, so I want a good pair of headphones.
And since I already have a BK2, I have less of a need for a new knife (although I do have quite a hankering for fresh steel).

Alright, thanks guys for all of your helpful suggestions!
Does anyone happen to have a side by side comparison of a BK2 to a BK5? Thickness and length comparisons would be great (that's what she said).

I've got an idea...

Go ahead and buy the headphones...:jerkit:
Wrap them up and send them to me....
I'll slice them to ribbons with my BK5...:D
Then I'll send them back to you...;)
You'll be sad...:(
You'll wish you bought the BK5 instead of the headphones...
And above all, you'll wonder why the hell you ever sent the headphones to me in the first place! :D

I like beats by dre for headphones. I've had tons of them from Bose to skullcandy to sennheisers and beats well, beat all of them out of the water.

people always ask me if my headphones are the beats by dre, really mine dont look similar at all but the red cord makes people think there the same i guess but i think mine LOOK better, even got camo on the headband. my headphones work as good as any i would need tho honestly and they are jvc xx xtreme around ear. i cant stand the little plugs sticking in my ears.

Uh.... which would you use more often the bk5 or the headphones?

The headphones will not last as long as a BK5 IMO. In a few years they will be outdated but the BK5 will last forever. Plus the BK5 will retain most of it's resale value after its used and you can always throw it up on the exchange if you get buyers remorse (which I have never experienced w/ a BK&T btw)....

Oh my gosh. That is one sexy knife, seeing it in your hand.
Yep. What did you do to the scales? They look awesome.
Pretty much sold at this point.

I can't tell you where the greater need lies, in headphones or the BK5.

I'm also an audio engineer. For headphones I also recommend the Audio Technica ATH-M50. Sennheiser HD280 is good too.

They were actually like that when I got it.
They were sanded with some low grit. Not bad.
I've since added factory Ka-bar micarta with SS hardware.
I like the micarta way better than the grivory.
I waited way too long to get the 5. It's my favorite Becker to use.

Really? Your favorite? How many different Beckers do you own? Where do you feel that the BK5 excels amongst others?
I like the factory bead blast look on my scales, but I may have to try sanding them a bit soon.

Yes. Really.
Right now I have the 5, 9, 11 & 16.
I have owned the 2,3,4,7,14,& 15.
If I could only have one Becker for the rest of my life it would be the 5.
The BK5 excells at slicing. Very stabby. It's incredibly agile in the hand. Great balance and it's Becker tough.
There are a few members who use it as their dedicated woods knife.
It's just a great overall knife, and I would highly reccomend it!
