BK5 Sheath issue fixed?

Hey all wondering if anyone that had the recent BK5 blade too long for the sheath issue got it resolved. Would like to order one but wanted to wait until the issue was fixed. It seems like it was a recent issue so if you have had a 5 for a while it may not have the same sheath. There were several pics etc but have not seen any updates to those posts.

I have an older 5 and had no issues with the sheath. I can't speak for current ones but my guess is that yes, they were fixed.
 
No updates. Still an issue. It doesn't make the sheath unusable, but it is something that should be resolved. I would still say to go ahead and order one. If they do release an updated sheath or something, I'm sure KABAR will send out a replacement.

In the mean time, I'm getting a kydex sheath for mine. I'm sure everyone has lots going on in preparation for shot show...
 
Yea have not heard from toooj, likely a bit busy with Shot coming up. Hopefully, Someone will chime in with some current info, Bueller...anybody...
 
single case is "not an issue" typically. a new sheath from KaBar would probably resolve it.

now, if we get more of these, a dozen, and more, then they have an issue. could have been a bad batch of sheaths, or just one stiched funny - they ARE mostly made by hand i would imagine - human error. could have been a slightly longer BK5.

That's kinda what I was thinking... I also found a thread from back early this year... like feb/mar i think with a couple of people talking about the same issue. I'm having trouble finding that thread now. I should have linked it in my original before... If I can find it again, I'll post it.

It's definitely not a one-off issue.
 
This is my thought.

Order from Tomars, when you place the order give him a call, ask him to double check the fit and make sure it won't puncture the sheath.
 
I just got a BK5 a week or two ago, it has the new style sheath and if I put my finger at the bottom below the liner and wiggle the blade I can feel the tip there.. I don't think it would poke through unless there was something pushing against the fabric there, maybe inside a pack or something, but it would be nice if there was a 1/4" of extra liner down there to cover the tip.
 
Yea that does not sound good, its got a pretty sharp point so it wil likely work its way through. I doubt that the BK5 has grown in length any, so I am guessing the new sheaths are a bit out of spec.

Actually, I had wondered if just maybe a batch of knives were slightly longer after being ground. I measured mine, and it is exactly 8", so I would guess the plastic liner is a little short.

Got a BK5 incoming, will let everyone know how the sheath is, (after x-mas I guess). I know it will be recent stock, have not heard anything on a possible fix...

With a bunch of members getting these for Christmas, how are the sheaths looking?

Diced, hows yours look?

Before the new year, I'm ordering either a BK5 or a potbelly, my choice will be based on whether or not this issue has been resolved.

Just got my 5 the other say. Poked a hole in the sheath before I had it a day. Piece of junk. Love the knife but the sheath is a turd.

I don't think they're resolving the sheath issue because everyone seems to think that there isn't an issue... even though numerous members are reporting the problem.

I just ended up getting a kydex taco sheath for mine. I think it sucks that it's a problem at all... but the knife is really good and I wouldn't let the minor sheath issue hold you back from getting the knife.

I do want the Potbelly as well though... ;)

The sheath is actually a really good sheath... when used for the knife it was made for - the BK7.

It's just not the right size for trying to stuff the BK5 in there.
 
I got a bk5 for Christmas and the first thing I checked was the sheath after hearing of problem here. I have to say that my sheath is perfect if fits the blade with room in the bottom to spare. I don't know if they fixed the issue or some of you guys just got bad sheaths. Did anyone else get one over the holidays?
 
I am assuming that there is no plastic bottom on the plastic knife sleeve that is inside the nylon sheath ??? If so, what may have happened, is that the sleeve was simply cut a little too short, for what ever reason ?

I did! And the issue seems to be fixed as far as I can tell.
