This has been a rough year but a great Christmas! I got a BK2 and now a BK5!!
This BK5 is awesome. I never thought that I would want one but now that I have handled it all day, boy what a knife!
It came razor sharp from choil to tip. It cut through newsprint easily and shaved out of the box.
I cant do any serious wood work yet but I took it for a little walk about and it seems like it will be a great camp knife. The choil lets you do some close up work while the length should probably let you do some batoning if necessary. It is not as thick as most of my camp knives but I think it should do fine. The back of the blade is sort of like a unsharpened false edge, but its not so thin that it looks like it will tear up batons. At least thats my thoughts now. It will be interesting to post a follow up next year when Im healed up and can really put these Beckers to their intended use!!
The handle design and blade sweep makes it scream like it would be a champ in the house or camp kitchen. I was going to get the micarta handles for it but as someone else mentioned with food prep the grivory might be easier to clean up.
A side note, the handle to tang fit is great, you cannot feel any gap between them. On some knives the handles don not line up when they tighten them and you get a uneven fit, not so on the BK5.
I will be using it for Christmas dinner and hunting season next year. It looks a little big for a skinning knife but with a little finesse I believe it will work great.
I stopped by a friends house and his escrima group were working out and they loved the knife. two of them ordered theirs on the spot!! It is a fast and lively knife in hand and you can really change grip positions quickly. They were wondering if the false edge could be sharpened. Has this been done yet? One of our buddies there is going overseas and wants to take one with. He is interested in possibly sharpening the false edge as well, to make it more of a combat knife. Im fine with the factory grind for my usage.
This is a picture of their BOB training dummy, some kali sticks, a blue gun, (training gun), and MY BK5, yes MINE!!!!
, ps I think the pic turned out pretty cool.
All in all this is a great knife. I can not wait to get to try it and the BK2 for some hard work come the following year.
Thanks again Ethan and Becker, you have a new fan and hopefully soon a new BeckerHead!!!
Take care and thanks for looking.
