Well I'm now looking for a 6 or 7" blade and can't decide between the 2

My main question is when batoning does the clip point hinder the bk7 a bit?

And another reason I've been thing about the esee is I'll be around the same total cost with a bk7 once I change the grip and sheath

Anyone with experience on this would help a lot

Thanks

There both good knives. Id still go with the BK 7. Less cost up front and IMO the better all around knife.

I have held (not used) both and prefer the 6. It's probably the only knife in the full-size ESEE lineup that really makes me go "ooh yeah!".

I cannot comment on the ESEE, but I do really love my BK7. While I would prefer the drop point over the clip point, the BK7 does a fine job making a splitwood fire. Here are some videos I made using my BK7 for a "Weak Hand Splitwood Fire" challenge I did for a Hardwoodsman requirement that Iz Turley does.

Someday I may have the ESEE 6, but the BK7 is a great blade. It or my BK2 are some of my favorite blades.

I was actually just trying to decide between the ESEE-6 and the BK-7 just a few weeks ago.

I went with the BK-7, the deciding factor for me was the length of the cutting edge, the ESEE-6 only has a 5.75" cutting edge while the BK-7 has 7".

I have had both and now only have the ESEE6 ,if that tells you anything. The 6 needs more rounded scales to become the perfect knife of that size.

Cool. I'm getting one for sure. I like my Beckers, but there are other fish in the ocean too.

Ritter/Becker bk12 may be worth a look.... 6" drop point with Becker handle...
+1. Best of both worlds. Made by Rowen (ESEE's manufacturer) as well.
Of the choices given, I would take the BK7 hands down. It's got a longer cutting edge, finer tip, Grivory (zytel now?) handles (plus in my book) and a great heat treat. Both are wonderful tools I'm sure, but I only own a 7 and have no intentions of owning an ESEE 6 anytime soon. I know the 7 and love it, and have no experience with the 6.

With we to blade lengh and handles we would have something like this.
Candiru BK-13
Esse 3 BK-11
Esse 4 BK-16
Esse 5 BK-2
Esse 6 BK-12

well I've never touched the esse 6 but, if you are more used to the beckerhandles go all the way with the 12.

Thanks guys, I know I'm going for a bk15 next so thatll give me a little more to decide

I agree with this. Get the TKC G-10 scales for the 6. They really make the knife shine. The 6 would still be my choice though, but again, the BK12 is another one to seriously look at. It's very well balanced with the micarta on it.

It's a tough choice brother, and comes down to little things that might be important to you. They are both very well made solid knives.

The 7 is slightly thicker, a half inch longer, a little heavier and will outchop the 6. World famous Becker ergos and with micarta it feels quick and light in the hand. With the ramp gone and a tiny choil, it's one of my favorite "all around" knives.

The ESEE, being thinner and FFG, it is a little better slicer. It feels quite a bit lighter in the hand, is well balanced and I like the handles (a lot) as well as the choil. Stripped, spine squared and convexed, it too is a big favorite of mine.

To answer your question, the BK7 does tear up a baton with the swedge, but that's nothing really and it has a tad more reach. I don't know man, it's a tough call. You wouldn't be underknifed with either. Are you sure you don't want both? :D

Great comparison pics. I have been trying to find pictures of a rampless 7 for awhile. Thanks for posting!
