Which is preferrable?? ,, I owned a bk7 for a bit and loved it, But the rc 6 has a usable choil which would seem to enable you to choke up a bit...Perhaps making it more versatile
THe leuku Is probably more my Style, but the absence of a full Tang, concerns me some.. THanks.

Well, Koyote is making me a larger Leuku that has the much larger tang (not a stick tang), but that is still compeletly covered (think something like the older Rat knives). That may fit your bill...

John,
My old computer farted out..or I would have a bunch of hard use pics of a Leuko from Javenpaa...I have to tell you, it chopped way better then anything else in your list. Gene

Chopping after the edge was taken back some. Just as good as a hatchet.

Shavings just for the record.

I haven't been able to find something I didn't like about the RC6, the sheath is good, the edge geometryis fine out of the box, I would sugest taking it back a bit, but it will work fine out of the box.
The handle is very comfy, micarta is grippy even when wet, comes with all the stuff to attach it anywhere on any pack.

What more can I say, need specific pics? let me know.

if you are looking for a chopper, a leuku might not be your best bet (unless it was like that koyote that kgd has). they will chop pretty well, but that is not their primary function. they are good for one-knife scenarios, in that they are pretty good at a wide variety of tasks such as food prep, game processing, light chopping, clearing light vegitation and most bushcraft knife tasks. plus, the whole scandi grind....

i think i saw a leuku-puuko combo for sale on the exchange, but the leuku was convex. so maybe check that out if you dont mind the convex.

Riley why don't you check out the new Scrapyard offering that's due anytime now, it's made from 51200 steel and with the Busse family heat treat makes it virtually indestructable. It should be around 3/16" stock with a high sabre grind so should be a reasonable slicer as well !

I suppose I'm wondering if a leuku can handle a baton with regularity

not sure, I had an old knife that my Grand Father gave me years back before he died.
1/8 of an in, 9" blade, or 8" maybe, carbon steel and maple handles. From the work that I did with it, EG lots of batonning, hacking and skinning, It did get a few bends in the blade.

If you want a knife you can beat on some, A RC6, BK7, Swamp rat or similar with a Edge thinned would be you best bet.

Ill try and get some pics up.

Here's the one I've been using for a few years. Whacking , batoning , digging , etc. Every so often it get's cleaned up with a little 220 grit wet and dry.

Easily provided it is made of known, quality steel and you understand that when it is time to stop batoning you do so. Koyote can make you a full tank leuku that pretty much meets all your needs (it doesn't necessarily have to be 10" in length like mine :) ).

I would really, really love to pick up an 8" or 8.5" version of that leuku you have KGD, that's one of my favorite customs that I've seen around here in the last year or so.

I love the RC6,one of my favorite all time knives....

I swapped scales from my RC5 to the RC6...I prefer micarta over the linen, tad better grip

I'd go with a RC-6. I don't have one but judging from my RC-4 it must be a great knife. Also, there's the lifetime warranty. You may not use your knives hard, but at least if you drop it on concrete or damage the blade in another way, RAT will replace it at no fee.

RescueRiley, I love my RC6, in fact, if you want it for a week or so to try it out I could ship it to you for some play time. Let me know brother.

+1 for the RC6:thumbup: It's a great knife and hard user plus you don't have to worry about breaking it, 100% warranty...

I think either one will serve you well. Personally I plan on getting both some day.
