BK7 saved my butt

The rubber stops the extra key jangling, rod corrosion over time, and rubbing mess. I could have that on there for years before use as an emergency back-up.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought maybe you slipped and fell over some of that stuff, which did not seem very plausible :D

Good idea to seal up the rod, would hate to get a load of ferro bits in my sandwich or whatever.

Glad you and your family stayed safe. Being in Oklahoma, you have to be smart about taking care of your family. I have had tornadoes hit my house, grass fires stop less than a minute from my house (twice) ice storms that knock out the power for days and weeks, plus now with the earthquakes we are getting here, city provided water is not a daily promise. You gave very good tips about things to keep around. I would like to add that folks keep their emergency items stocked for all weather conditions. With low temps and high winds in the winter and drought and 60+ days in a row of 100+ degrees in the summer, a large supply of multi-season items are needed. Plus, talk to you neighbors (the ones you know are not freaks) they too will begin to start preparing for life's little surprises. Most of my neighbors are prepared, if not mostly prepared. This way if it is a HUGE SHTF scenario, I don't have to worry about my neighbors becoming a liability. Sounds weird but I have seen it happen.
