Bk7 vs Bk2

Just ordered from him now :) Now I'll have a BK-2,BK-7 and Necker

You have 3 more then me:grumpy:

but someday.............................well its gonna be a while I've bought about 5 knives in the last 6 weeks and have no more cash..

until i sell my Puma 971 game warden.. ;)

I've had the BK2,BK9,and Necker for a while now. I have a 7 inbound and really looking forward to it being my "tweener" knife. (actually ,really looking forward for BK&T to make a 3/16"thick 4-5"blade, but the 7 will do for now !!)

I'll cast my vote for the BK7. I had the BK2 and sold it. I don't like a short knife to be that thick. My favorite Becker is the BK9.

I'd get the BK 7 for an overall knife. The BK2 will be heavy, and the thinner will be better for camp tasks.

The Truth has been spoken. The BK2 is a 1/4" slab of steel. Its heavy. I'd use it to pry open the trunk of a 1978 Monte Carlo, no doubt. For camp work, I'd want the BK7. My mileage.

I have yet to own a Becker...

I just sold my srk which I used as a medium blade for hiking/camping.. I normally have a machete/medium/and my Izula or an ESEE4..

My question, since the 4 is pretty decent size (almost as long as the bk2)do you think I should by the 7 for the batoning capabilities, or will the 2 be sufficient?? I realize the 2's thick wedge blade goes right thru wood but wouldn't the 7 blast thru some? Sometimes its hard to baton with a machete unless I bring one of my Khukuris.. which in some cases pending the hike is unacceptable as they're HEAVY.......

BK7 COMBAT/UTILITY
BK2 CAMPANION

The BK7 was my first love in the Becker line up, but I always put it in the category of a combat knife. In a combat knife, you want a fast light blade, as there are 2 types of knife fighters, the quick and the dead. For me, the BK2 is the ULTIMATE hiking camping knife. I have yet to find a chore, be it chopping, slicing, batoning, fuzz sticking, firesteel striking, etc. that it cannot do. Other knives can out perform it is certain areas, and ESEE 3 can fuzz a matchstick for pete's sake, but it don't chop worth a damn. The Bk2 can do it all relatively well, and if you can break that knife, I will be amazed. Just sayin'. Moose

it mostly at this point, imho comes down to the 2 or the 9 for camping/outdoors/etc.

now, if you are a standard KaBar military knife fan, the 7 is ideal, the the older 10 model was much beloved (may make a limited return). both have thump ramps, which the military seems to request more often than not...

if you order a 9, many of them come with a smaller knife, though perhaps not all (when stocks of the bonus knife run out), but one can always get the Necker or Remora (or upcoming Eskabar) as a companion knife for any of the lighter chores.

now, all that said, and as said many, many, many, many, many, many times before ;) depending on your needs, the 2 may be overkill, and the 7 enough... or the 7 not enough, and the 2 (or 9) ideal.

batoning is fun and all, but i rarely seem to do it, a couple sticks, to get a fire going, or to split a branch for a project. if i need to chop logs, i use an axe.

Just bought a BK7 to replace and out do my CS Carbon V SRK which I just sold.. a trade if you will, in a sense...

It was a toss up between the 2-7, I'll carry and ESEE 4 or Izula, with a medium blade (BK7) and normally my cheap CS Khuk, or a 14" bolo machete.. this set up performs all my camp chores easily...

I have yet to ever take even a short hike with only one knife.. I'm just sick I guess..

OK, just got the BK2 in yesterday and holy crap! You don't realize how thick blade is by reading online specs until you actually hold it! Its a heavy thick piece of STEEL. I still like the 7 A tad better for an all around hiking, trail type Blade but this BK2 is a PRIME camping knife. It's going to be a workhorse.

I think you'll wind up with the BK2 all the time. I did the exact same thing. Had a 7, bought a 2, now the 7 gets held once a week just for old times sake. Moose:D

So now that I am FINALLY about to buy a camping/bushcraft knife this is the only thing standing in my way.

It may be a super long shot, but does anyone in the Pacific Northwest have a 2, 7 or both I could handle?

If not, I think I will most likely go with the 2. I chose an AK variant over an AR because of the indestructibility.
