BK77 Micarta scales finish quality?

try searching the term ' becker micarta '

it might bring up other results as well, but a number will be saintcutlery. You can click the vendor name from that point and bring up everything they have listed for sale.
Well, tried and tried again. Maybe just "my time" on the errornet is running afoul. What comes up is Collectible Antiques and/or Sponsored Results that's all. Once again, thanks for the assist!

Thanks for the replies. Once I realized from all your inputs that what I got from KABAR is "as good as it gets," I got out of lazy and complaining mode, and took care of business on the scales with 400 and 600 grit. Now smoothed out and profiled to my preference. I suppose I should not have compained in the first place, but I guess I expected "perfection" for the price of the OEM scales. Although my sense is that they are still overpriced by about $15-20, but that's just me. Thanks for the sanity check from all.

You can find mineral oil at any pharmacy since it's a laxative. Inexpensive too. I use it to oil carbon blades (non-toxic), to maintain wooden cutting boards, and to use on micarta.

And he keeps it to maintain regularity...

The Camillus (Becker) green micarta handles are the best that I seen. They were $15 a pair when they closed the factory. I wish I could find a pair now:thumbup:

I was also surprised by how poorly finished the Kabar micarta grips were. Mine had visible grooves / ridges that needed to be sanded out because they would eat my hands. I'd expect that if they were maybe $25, but for $40 they need to spend 5 mins on finishing obvious rough work from the CNC.

Fortunately the scales fit perfectly, so much can be forgiven.

You mean these? :D

Honestly, they don't fit the hand quite as well as the Ka-Bar micarta. Good, but definitely blockier.

If you have soft hands, there are smoother, after-market options for about the same price. See post #3 in this thread.

I hate you Biscuit!

Grrrrrrr. You know how hard those scales are to find!? Now I know why, you have them all....
