I have 4 beckers. Well when I was doing some work with my bk9 the screw fell out of the handle and I couldn't find it. Then with the bk7 the 3 screws fell out. I dont know if these are hard you knives or not but this is very annoying. I wish kabar would take more pride in their products and address this issue. I know their has been some talk before about these problems but still. Ethan could you please address this issue.

Address it yourself. The FAQ lists what screws you need. You can also contact KA-BAR directly. I think they have a website or something. Maybe even a whole number that you can call to talk to people who service customers. Take more pride in your tools and their maintenance. It is a two way street. I think KA-BAR is doing just fine.

So I use it 1 time and the screw falls out? I dont know if their is some kind of maintain a knife you used one time? I even tightened the screws when I got them from the factory. I think they aren't doing fine on the becker's their supposedly hard use knives but they cant be used more than one time? Their Kabar tanto did fine with the tasks the beckers were performing.

u shouldnt have any trouble getting it off if u use the blue locktite, it will be tight at first but thats the point. If u use red though it may be harder to get off.

Hey buyer5207.....

Sorry about that.....The fast way of getting a fix is the hardware store......OR....I will be happy to get Tooj to drop you the screws you need in the post.....This issue IS BEING ADDRESSED at the factory as we speak.......A mild loctite is recommended....I have never had this happen, although many would say I personally have a screw or two loose,.....I have one BK 2, that straight out of the box, has been hit thousands of times with a maul and been used to chop, etc, etc, without the screws coming loose....So I do not feel that Loctite is needed.........A reasonable amount of torque SHOULD solve the problem.......

I am very sorry that this has happened to you and I hope the virtues of the product outweigh your understandable irritation..........

All Best.....

The reason why the screws keep coming off is harmonics. When you chop, or baton, it creates a vibration in the steel that resonates through the grivory. Grivory flexes when you tighten the screws, thus putting outward pressure on the hex head and nut. At the vibrations travel down the steel, the nuts back off. Blue loctite will allow the nut to stay on and allow you to remove them later, should you wish. The screws can be found at just about any local hardware or home improvement store, even in stainless, which is a good choice. The issue has been addressed with Paul Tsujimoto, the QA man at Kabar, and Ethan both. Toooj, Ethan and Kabar take alot of pride in their knives, as do we all.

If you should need new screws fromt the factory, please contact Kabar, and they will have them out to you that day, providing you don't call too late in the business day. Should you wish to take it upon yourself to resolve, the bolt and screw specs can be located in the FAQ. You can get replacement screws and Blue Loctited for less than $5 at Lowes or Home Depot.

Beckers are hard use knives, but they must be maintained as any tool must. I don't have loctite on my Beckers, they get used rough as hell, and I have never had a screw loosen, much less fall out. I maybe perhaps one of the lucky ones, but I overhaul my knives once a week and daily if I am outdoors. They get a mineral oil wipe down and a goin' over.

I hope you enjoy your Becker knives, they will last you a lifetime. Moose

I have had this issue with ALL of my screw fastened handles....Esee as well as Beckers. Every single knife from both companies had at least one loose screw or more. Esee's even come with loc-tite from the factory ,but upon inspection , some screws had very little to none applied. I'm talking about at least 20 knives here. All my Esee line including spares , as well as my BK 2 ,7 ,and 9. had loose or not very tight screws. Frustrating to some degree? Yes. Dissatisfied with either manufacturer ? NOT AT ALL. It's just like anything else. Maintain it. Check it out when you get the knife first home before using it. Small thing to do considering the great quality and value these knives represent.
The thing is also ,if you really have an issue with either BK&T or Esee , they will take care of you. In today's modern world of mass production , that is a rare thing indeed. Don't sweat it , and secure them yourself. ;)

I agree with all of the advice given except for one, and I'm glad that attitude isn't typical of all the Beckerheads. Oh well, everyone has a bad day.

As far as the screws falling out...sounds to me like KABAR and Mr. Becker are taking care of business (as usual). Stroke of bad luck man, but Beckers still reside at the top of the heap!!

buyer5207,

Give me a call at (800) 282-0130.
If I'm not there, leave a message containing your name and address and I'll get you out a set of replacement scews and nuts. (Enough for both knives and then some)
We are aware of this at the factory...One would think it's an easy fix but there are a lot of issues that need to be addressed. We will get it resolved.
Hope this helps.

look at that, best customer service in the industry :)

i wonder if it would be easier to supply a little dab of loctite and a hex key with the knives, and let the users decide if they want to do the deed or not - some folx are keen on storage.

of course, some others replace the hex heads with slotted (and stainless). though most i'm sure don't do anything, and have no issues.

that said, none of the screws on my knives have fallen out. i guess once a little sweat gets in there, and some good old work toughening, they just get stuck. i had to really whale on my tac-tul the other day to unstick those screws enough to see if the tang was solid :)

if you don't want to use loc-tite, or just don't feel like buying it, one can improvise with some old plastic wrap or a plastic bag... wrap a tiny amount around the threads (like plumbers teflon tape), and screw away. easily removed later.

Just in case might be news to some, there are vibration resistant nuts with either nylon inserts, deformable metal crowns, or special threads. Any of these would do the job too: Wikipedia on Locknuts . The nylon insert style ("Nyloc") is widely available at hardware or auto supply stores.

OT - Just added the Micarta scales to my BK2 (using the stock screws and nuts)... Mmmm, mmm, good! :)

Cheers,

Thank you Ethan and Tooj for taking care of the issue right away. You guys/Kabar have the best customer service I have ever seen.

buyer they jumped right on it didn't they?? how sweet is that??

I too had the same problem, I never tightened my screws when receiving knife, I honestly think if a simple note was put in with every knife to let customer know to check screw torque before hard use I think problems solved..

This would be the fastest solution and at least advises the customer of possibly having a screw loose;) , we don't want the first time BK buyer to get the wrong impression of their knives.......
