This is going to blow your mind.
If not I will get a ka-bar MKI to get me by.

Who has a good price on the BK16.

I think I prefer the MK1 to the 16. At least I will when I finish my work on the pommel and fix the balance.

I am thinking of making a MKI with a G-10 handle to help off set the heavy handle end of the MKI.

I can get a 1 foot stick of G-10 that is 1 and a half inches thick and turn it on a laith to give it some shape and drill out the pomnel pin and pull off the leather washers and replace with my G-10 handle. A foot is about 25 bucks.

If I do it I will post pictures.

That would be pretty cool. I'm just shaving down the pommel since that seems to be where most of the weight is.

I like the 7 (a lot) but the 16 and 9 will accomplish anything really.

IMO, the 16 (and the rest of the tweeners) do need some basic mods before they become a good knife. Strip it and add some liners to the handles for starters.

Well I went with a MKI and a Ontario Marine Raider. I know, I know, this is the becker section but I still own a bunch of Beckers and will probably get a another BK9 soon.

I really wanted a BK9 and Bk16 but I have to admit the prices on them have gotten a little too step in the last few years. My first BK9 I got just 4 years ago was only 78 bucks and that was with a 13 included with it. Now at the same place it is 95 bucks. Its no longer cheap fun. Its now a serious perches.

I will start posting here again when I am about to get another BK which should be this summer sometime.

Thanks for the sugestions and they were all correct.

Mag. Camp and a hatchet\axe. Use the Mag for food prep, wood SLICING and fish filleting. It is a darn good filleting knife actually and it is a very light carry. The hatchet or small axe for the rough wood processing. It is becoming clearer to me over time why the old fur traders used knives like the BK-5.

Sounds like you already made your decision, but for those with a similar dilemma I'd go for the 9 and 16. The 9 is your heavy-duty chopper and workhorse and the 16 is your all-purpose companion that will do 90% of what the 9 will do but without the massive heft and size. The 9 really shines when it comes to processing wood and heavy tasks. The 16 comes in for everything else.

Yep. That trailing point design is great for so many things.
