So on the chat board we started talking about the book of Eli sheath, and I got it in my head to make one for a BK9. Since Oregon Faller was kind enough to send me his 9 and 7 to test out for a bit I had the tool to make the sheath. Today the box got here, and was waiting for me when I got home.

So far I have the straps and sheath roughly made. I just need to do the outside stitching on the sheath and I'm gonna call it done. I'm not gonna do any kinda fancy finish on it, but I will even up the edges on the sheath; no burnishing though.

Here are the pix so far. The guys on the chat board were first to see it.

I try to post more or maybe a few finished pix tomorrow.

Dude! you got on that one fast!! Can you model it for us? I wanna see it on a body.

Also respect that 7.... it bit me.

Your not wasting any time gettin to work on those bad boys. Lookin' good man. That nine got me when I was carving my fork, only a little though.

I'll see what I can do for that tomorrow.

I'm very weary around the 7. I know this one likes to bite other people.

Crap no!

Thanks for sending 'em up. I'll have something in the return box for ya.

There's no hurry on the return. A little more battle scar ain't gonna hurt it none. Lemme know what you think of those Zombie snot grips on that 7. No bullshit, cause i have zero time behind those grips and they can be modified.

I've never seen the movie, and I didn't find a picture that shows how this is carried. Really looking forward to some pictures of it in use. Looks great so far! Just let time and heavy use do the edge burnishing part.

take care

Strap runs over left shoulder, around chest, around right side ribs.

He has a hole cut in the coat he is wearing that you can just barely see the strap running through, and I imagine the pads are on the shoulder and ribs, as that is the only place it really makes sense when you consider how he pulls it down to remove it from the sheath in the movie (down and right).

Ah, thanks Derek.

Is it in any way useful to carry a large machete like this? I don't really see a retention strap, and if that thing slides out, it's gonna slice you up pretty good.

I think I'm just gonna have to watch the movie.

According to the designer there was a small clip inside that didn't work too well, so when they did anything requiring him to move alot but the machete to stay in the sheath, they would tie a rope to the clip that held it in so it would stay.

I think it could have been much better done using kydex on the inside (movie version). Or if you are going with a high carbon steel maybe rare earth magnets.

Very Nice! That thing is looking great.
It might be benificial to add a thumb strap If you don't mind straying from the original design. I tied mine on with paracord the other day and it wasnt a bother to unsnap.

Great work!

Thanks guys!!!

So far I have the straps mostly done. I do want to change a couple things though. Right now I have only one buckle on the straps, but I'm thinking about putting two more on so that the straps are fully adjustable. As far as retention I made the sheath to be tight on the blade. I'm actually having a hard time pulling the knife out and putting it back in the sheath. I also tried the 7 in there just a bit ago, and it has nice retention, but not enough for me to feel comfortable carrying it around like that.

I'm gonna take a pic and have another update up here in a bit. :D

So I still need to finish up sewing on the outside of the sheath; I know.

Anyway, here are the pix as of now.

Looks great, don't you stab yourself in the ribs frequently while resheathing? Are you planning to put some serious use on that or is this one of those "because I can" Ideas?
