BK9 Break-In (Pic Heavy)

I was sitting here at the desk wondering about edge retention after that round of batoning and choppping.

Let's just say I lost a big swath of arm hair. Nothing wrong with that heat treat best I can tell.

I also lopped a piece of printer paper clean in two with one swipe.

You've always been "heck" on printer paper.:)

I sort of felt like lopping the printer in two.

A couple of folks have asked about Ka-Bar vs. Camillus, so I took a few contrast pics.
The major differences are blade thickness, height of grind, coating, and tang (Ka-Bar is skeletonized while Camillus is full).
The swedge is a bit sharper on the Ka-Bar. And of course, the stock micarta scales differ from each company.
I have largish hands, and I've gotten used to my Camillus scales and like them.
But I honestly think most folks would prefer the Ka-Bar scales.
They more closely approximate the shape of the standard Becker handle, and they feel very natural in hand.

Oh, and just to show that I won't be outdone by GingivitisKahn, I'm posting up (for the first time ever!) my "BlueTac" modification to the newer BK9.

Don't know Ethan. I've never chopped much in the way of walnut. My great-grandfather used to have walnut trees though, and there's no mistaking that odor. I can smell walnuts on the ground, and I'm transported back to his place. In our yard, we have three pecan trees, and those trees basically self prune. I always seem to have a chunk or two laying around from the larger limbs that fall. It does get pretty hard after it seasons a while. The woodpeckers sure love the pecan trees. They're ringed with peck holes; you can see a few holes in the chunk I posted.

Haha! I am loving the blue light! It would be cool if you figured out a way to integrate it into the knife handle! Looking good!

WTF there is know reason not to own one.....

I have to disagree - I have found it very hard to own one Becker. I did try, I bought a BK-7, but I liked it too much and bought a BK-9, then I bought a BK-2. Owning 3 is easy enough, but owning 1 would be tough.

:D I just bought a BK2 and I have a feeling I am going to get the Becker addiction and end up with many different ones. I have to say what you said was pretty funny, I was wondering why you were in the Becker forum if you didnt like them :p

Nice pics !! thanks for the review, that is some of the cleanest chopping I've ever seen on the first couple pics.........

I've done nothing so far with mine except cut some paper and like you I noticed this thing came EXTREMELY sharp:thumbup: Ethan told me he was going to hand pick it but I'm starting to think maybe he had it sharpened :) My other BK's came sharp but not like this one, either that or someones really tightening down on the QC of the final edge..

I'll have to get out with that sucker, some day.. :grumpy:

batoning is dumb :)

good review :>

nice LED

The BK-2 is a great knife, but sometimes you need more reach on the blade or you want more length for better chopping ability. Don't waste time, order a BK-9 now - you won't regret it!
