There was some interest in my thread last night about a shoulder rig for a BK9. I rigged a ''rough draft'' last night and worked it out in kydex/550 today. I like it, maybe the best carry method I've ever tried for a larger blade.

What I came up with last night...

And Phase 1 of the rig today...

After wearing it for awhile..I realized it was a lil ''swingy'' and I couldn't draw it very well one-handed, I had to trap the sheath with my left arm to draw it, and it wasn't very smooth or fast...so back to the drawing board!

Rigged a belt clip with some shock-cord ran to the bottom of the sheath

Works well, doesn't interfere with access to my jean pockets..(I hate crap blocking my pockets) and is almost scary how quick and effortless a ''quickdraw'' is from this position with the belt clip added! It's a lil ''mall-ninjaish'' for my taste..but it has practical applications.
It's very stable while moving, doesn't flop and bang around when walking, can stoop and lean without it swaying out from my body.

Everything is attached with two piece screw set & silencers from MOLLE locks..so I can easily remove it all from sheath and reinstall it without any adjustments or redoing of knots.

Nice work, I like it.

thanks Dubz..I started making it mainly because people asked and it made me curious about designing something like this...but after using it a bit...I freakin love it LOL I've stumbled on my perfect carry system I think

I wanna see Sky's version, Azwelke's version and MWTIMC's version of this carry style, and I also wanna see it for a Machax and Patrol Machete, those would be awesome!

Like the finished product. So can you please market this sheath as being able to turn the King into the "Neck Knife of the Gods" :) I mean technically the cord does go around your neck......

interesting.....id like to try one out as a hunting rig. it would allow me to carry a pistol strongside and the BK 9 in a "handy" location

there is such a thing as practical mechanics. I doubt drawing or resheathing a Machete length blade would be very easy or graceful with this rig. And I have a long arm span, I may pull out my cold steel 18'' machete to try it out...but I dont have very favorable feelings about it. The machax might work this way, but it has an odd draw-motion...or at least the Azwelke sheath does...not sure it would work from this position/angle

This is actually really similar to how I figured out worked best for my 9 as well. Main difference is that I don't have cool kydex, and the 9 is more vertical for mine.

Looks great :).

I usually carry crossdraw, I shoot with either hand so I like to be able to draw with either hand. By moving the belt clip closer to small-of-back, I can adjust where the knife hangs. I can go all the way around where the blade is laying against my back if I want. Or turn it over so the handle is to my right side.

I work at a summer camp, there is no such thing as "practical mechanics" for me, I get paid (albiet very little) to find ways around such things, but I was thinking, if you can keep the sheath further back, you might not be able to drive a car with it, but you can still carry it on a 4 wheeler/ATV/dirt bike, or while backpacking/land navigation if your really good, and it would solve the problem of the length of the draw, or at least help it.

And one different way to do it for the machax would be to put kydex retention on the spine and leave the edge side open with something like a piece of kydex that goes around the sheath and up about a 1/2 inch to protect the cutting edge and hold that in place with two snaps in a way similar to Azwelke's Machaxe sheath.

Nice work there, Thrill! The updates to gen 2 are very well thought out. I've never been a fan of that style of carry, but this looks like it'll work well. The retention clip is a great addition.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the kudos...Im just plowing thru with my head down and hoping for good results LOL

I really like the belt grabby thing. I was carrying my BK9 baldric style on paracord for quite some time as well but didn't attach it to my belt. The good news was that the knife was quick and convenient to swing to my back and out of the way but the bad news was the thing had a tendency to sworp around all over the place when I bent forward.

Think your solution is better. Looks better too!
