The sponsor of this forum doesn't have them in stock, and the few other places I checked don't either.

What else can I get in a 9 inch or 10 inch blade that will be good and in a similar low price range.

I have the BK7.

The 9 or 10 inch blade knife will be used for light duty camp chores, chopping off branches as I walk through the woods, and batoning through wood. I won't be doing any prying.

I want the knife to be relatively easy to pack or carry on me.

Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

Have you checked out the Ka-Bar heavy bowies? They offer a version with a 9" blade for just over $40. I haven't used one, but I believe I'd like these better than the Beckers.

There have been occasional BK9s showing up on eBay recently - I picked one up about 2 weeks ago. As far as comparably priced alternatives, why not check out the Ontario RTAK II or the Ranger RD9.

Regards,
Steve

www.scrapyardknives.com dog father is about to come out can't beat the price performance in my opinion. although they haven't been released yet so I can't really prove that. thinking of picking up a few of them. Jeff

I agree about the Dog Father Bowie.

But, if that is not what you want, then I suggest that you check out Ranger Knives; the RD Series. Also keep in mind, that Justin, the owner of Ranger will make you a custom Ranger at a great price!! Justin is a GREAT guy to deal with!!

If you want to stay cheap, I'd also recommend the Ka-Bar Heavy Bowie. It sounds just right for what you want. The knife isn't that heavy for it's size, which is nice if you're walking around with it a lot. The steel holds an edge decently and touches up quickly. The edge is thin and sharp and it chops quite well. The handle is very comfortable and secure for chopping. Great knife, I got mine for under $50 shipped.

Are you able to sit/move freely while wearing it IWB?

hatchet...Moving freely is no worry...A Rd7 or better yet a Rd6 would be better served though

Fonly...Took a bit of practice BUT it can be done with ease if you dont have overly long arms! :)
