the brutes got a thicker spine i think and its a little more robust but idont think it will chop as well as the bk9. the bk9 has a fuller flat grind as compared to the brute which is a thicker knife overall. all in all i think the brute is more durable and will respond to heavy batoning better in the long run. go with the brute , just my opinion though .
red edge , just get both of them and then you ll have two beckers ! riversw s is right though, the bk9 will perform better on precision chopping than the brute but i think you will be pleased with either one.
I've actually held the BK7, BK9, and BK1 (Brute). I chose the Brute. I liked the others, but the Brute just seemed more substantial overall. To put it another way, I would trust my survival to it more than the BK7 or BK9. Regardless, they are all nice knives, and the decision didn't come easy.
I'd go with the Brute. I have the BK 9. It's a good knife, especially for all around use. For wood chopping, the high flat grind tends to get stuck in the wood a lot. Just my humble opinion.
Choosing between the two, they're both good knives. I'm not at all unhappy with what I've got.
