BK9 or Junglas?

The Warlock is brand new and just begining to get to retailers. I believe the street price is around $70 if I recall. It has a 12.5" blade. Many Condor fans are lusting for one of these. It should be a great chopper! The Condor Boomslang is more along the lines of the Junglas with an 11" blade.

The regular Condor Golok (14") is also very popular. I have a couple of these which I use.

I would go BK9 because of the price. Like an earlier poster said a 12"+ machete is a good option. I know Ontario makes some decent machetes for like $20, its hard to go wrong with that price. Condor also has chopping knifes/machetes. I have heard the Condor Boomslang is a contender and the Condor Pack Golok looks like a decent tool as well. A machete would be lighter than the Junglas also if that matters.

These are somewhat under $100 and will out chop anything smaller than a large hatchet. They are the traditional blades of the Nepalese serving as both weapon and tool for millenia. They are carried by the renound Ghurka regiments of the Royal British military. They are individually made by craftsmen who's families have been building them for generations.

And what are these?

Condor 12" Bolo gets my vote.
I have both the 15" and 12" bolos. The 12" does a better job at chopping down trees. It also doesn't make you tire as fast because of its light weight. I tried using both bolos and a CS Katana machete on an 8" thick tree trunk and the 12" out-chopped both. Just my experience.

They mostly come from Himalayan Imports. I hear they are a fine company who have a forum here at BF. Take a look under the manufacturers forums.

That's odd. I own the 15, and got to play with the 12. I found the 15" to outchop it. I'll get a 12" sometime and see if it was just me not being used to the 12" or if it is just different technique.

Ok, what do you guys think of this: http://www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/product.php?id=323035f87

Looks like it might do ok.

Its fairly huge for a Kukri and remember that shipping from Khukuri House is expensive as well. I do have a Mukti from them that i love a lot though.

I have a warlock and while its a good knife, its not a great knife and the Golok out chops it. The Warlock however has a fantastic grip though im not impressed with the sheath.

This is what you want, good sir. Trust me. I keep buying machetes but I'm in love with the Junglas, especially for camping. If you like a big knife rather than a hatchet, you're going to want something with a bit of thickness. I feel compelled to take it out and handle it a little every day, haha.

I came in here looking for recommendations between two big knives, but I ended up getting a bit of an education on a type of blade I'd never looked into before. That's why I like this place! With khukuri's in mind, I've found a couple by KHHI that look interesting. Not too big, not to small, etc. Thoughts on these:

Again, this is meant to be carried on my pack as a chopper, to augment my BK7 and Mora. Thanks again, to all of you!

Honestly, I would reach for the Kukri, I got one at a flea market and it chops beautifully! It is 13.5" for the blade 17" overall. Turned out to be a 200 year old Nepal Khukuri. moral of the story: if you want a chopper that not only chops but will live longer than you will, get a good Kukri from Nepal (HI hand makes them in Nepal).

I would say the Junglas because it's thicker than the BK-9 and it still has the length. or an other option is an axe or hatchet like the Wetterlings wildlife hatchet.
