As many of you know, I attached the BK9 to my LBE, and made a second keeper/retainer for it: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/847864-Mounted-The-BK9-To-My-LBE

I had said in that thread that I had a better idea for a retainer. A rainy day out, so I decided to make it today.

Took a length of 1/4" aluminum rod, drilled a hole in one end, and made a notch in the other:

Ran some 1/8" shock cord through the hole in the aluminum piece, then took both ends, ran them in, then out of the eyelets, and attached an end to it:

Put the 9 back in the sheath, and snap the main keeper strap:

Place the aluminum rod up through the lanyard hole like so:

Pull the other end of the shock cord over the aluminum rod, and into the groove:

Held it upside down, main keeper undone, and shook the hell out of it. Didn't even budge:

This system works very well. Of course, the draw backs are that it isn't the fastest in the world to undo. Also, you can't have a lanyard in place. My solution for that is to simply keep some 550 cord, and a cord lock in the sheath's tin. It only takes a few seconds to put in.

Sweet dude!! Very nice job on that!!:thumbup: Great idea. I was thinking about something like that for my back sheath.

Add a front lanyard under the scales. Gut the cord and you can probably tighten it enough to close the gap completely. Looks good though T-Dub. I think I may use shock cord on my bk2 when I redo my belt loop.

Thanks brother. Was very easy to do.

I'm not crazy about the front lanyard, for whatever reason. Thanks for the compliment, btw.

Very neat way of solving that problem Dubs. Good work.

Thanks Derek. It was easy to make. I wrote in the OP, that it was slow undoing, but it really isn't at all. I can undo it quite quickly, all with one hand. I can also re sheath it one hand, and snap the main keeper, but it does take 2 hands to put the pin back in, and pull the cord over it.

Thanks brother, appreciated. I love doing these little projects. Keeps me sane.
