I know that most people here have heard about this, but since there are a lot of new guys here, I thought I would post this up.

I modded the sheath meant for the BK13 on my 9's sheath to fit a BK11.

Its pretty simple actually. Just drop your BK11/14 into some boiling water for a bit, insert it into the sheath and push it in very firmly. The idea here is that you get the blade warm enough to melt the plastic sheath and form it into a new shape. I repeated the process a few times, making sure the knife was always warm enough to push through cleanly without breaking anything.

It worked great, and now my BK11 can ride along with my BK9 :D.

Here are some shots how how it turned out.

Hope this helps out :).

Thats actually a question I brought up the last time I saw this done. Apparently the boiling water is too low of a temperature to affect the temper or HT of the blade. The HT takes place up around 300-400 degrees, and the water is just 200-ish. Also, the blade was only left in the water for about 30 seconds at a time, so I doubt it even hit full temperature.

I don't think it would fit in there if the scales were on it. I don't have any scales to test with, but I can't imagine that it would work well.

Good point to call out actually. I didn't suspend it, but instead took it off the burner for about 30 sec before I placed the knife in each time. That way the metal bottom had time to cool and transfer heat to the water.

And for what its worth, I believe that the temp range was asked to toooj in the "ask toooj" thread. And iirc the temp foe damage was up around 400f.

I still use the setup like this, and haven't noticed and degradation of edge holding.

Victotinox uses water as a constant coolant throughout the blade making procces after HT.

Idk the blade sciences but that to me says that the hottest temp of water is OK

Only reason it may not is cause the handle is about half inch longer. The blade is exactly the same though.

A question about this general mod...

Does the stock sheath for the 4 and 5 also have this sheath behind the pocket?

If so, it would be safe to assume that it would also work for them as well, correct?
